Redan DB Travis Benton has track tugging at his heart

Redan speedster Travis Benton said he has committed to play football at Alabama-Birmingham.

But will he sign with the Conference USA school?

Benton is still thinking about that one. It’s only because he has opportunities in track, too. He has been offered in track by Clemson, while UGA is heavily interested.

“I’m still thinking about which sport I want to play in college,” Benton said. “I’m just trying to find out which one I’m better at, which one I love the most.”

As for football, if Benton choose that route, he intends to sign with UAB. He also had interest from Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Benton plays wide receiver, defensive back and all special teams, and said he has been clocked at 4.2 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

In track, the 5-foot-7, 150-pound Benton is considered one of the state’s top sprinters in the 100 and 200 meters.
