Newnan OL Adam Calhoun announces college choice

Newnan offensive lineman Adam Calhoun has committed to Alabama State.

The 6-foot-7, 335-pound Calhoun was also considering Valdosta State and South Carolina State. He made the decision after visiting Alabama State this past weekend.

“I really liked the school and the coaching staff,” Calhoun said. “Alabama State just felt like the best fit for me. And I’ll have a chance to compete for playing time right away.”

Calhoun, who hopes to earn a college degree in sports medicine, is one of several senior prospects on Newnan, which also has Georgia Tech-bound Raymond Beno playing the offensive line. Safety Alec Ogletree is considered one of the state’s top juniors with around 15 early offers.

Hey AJ&C, why didn’t the headline read: “Spurns UGA, Picks Alabama” or “Doesn’t Consider UGA” ? This is usually not in your “collective nature” to not take a cheap shot at UGA — what gives, did you grow a conscience (is there an editor proofing now)?

Maybe UGA never was recruiting him, maybe UGA never made him an offer. Maybe UGA don't need any linemen from class of 2009, maybe UGA has all the linemen they need and didn't have a need to recruit him. Maybe Ga Tech didn't either considering they don't want 300 pound linemen for the offense they run. Don't hate the player hate the game!
