Cedar Grove’s Stanley McBride attracts colleges with 4.43 speed

Cedar Grove’s Stanley McBride certainly has found that running the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds will attract attention from colleges.

The 6-foot-3, 180 pound senior entered this season as a virtual unknown. But his first full season as a quarterback changed all. McBride is entering the Saints’ last regular-season game next Friday with a combined passing and rushing yardage total of 1,766.

But it is his 800 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns on just 78 carries (entering Friday’s game) that has drawn the most attention. Middle Tennessee State, Marshall, Troy, Central Florida, South Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi State and Appalachian State have recently expressed plenty of that.

“I thought I might have a chance to play in college when I was a junior, but I am a little bit surprised what has happened [recently],” said McBride, who runs the 400 meters in 47 seconds and will be a state championship contender in that event this spring. “Everybody except Appalachian State is talking to me about playing wide receiver. They are talking to me about being a quarterback.”
