The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Cartersville’s Donovan Tate, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, is the son of former Georgia tailback Lars Tate. He is considering Southern California, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan and North Carolina. He talked with staff writer Jay Stone about being recruited and other topics.
— On visit plans: “I went to USC, and I’m planning to visit Michigan next weekend. The following weekend I’m going to North Carolina-North Carolina State, and I’m going to the Alabama-Auburn game. That’s three weeks in a row.”
— On what things he looks for in a visit: ‘I kind of just want to see the atmosphere of the school, the game atmosphere and get a chance to talk to the football players. Just get a look at the campus.”
— On what school he has always been a fan of: “I grew up going to Georgia games and stuff. My mom and my dad went there. I grew up liking Georgia.”
— On his career goals: “I haven’t really thought about that a whole lot.”
— On playing baseball: “I want to do both in college. That’s what I’m looking for in all the schools.”
— On why he changed his mind after deciding to skip his senior football season: “Probably going to our first game and knowing I just missed it. I didn’t really want to let down my teammates I’d been with for four years. When I told coach [Cartersville’s Frank] Barden I wasn’t going to play, he said to go with baseball 100 percent if that’s what I chose to do.”
— On his spare time activities: “Play Guitar Hero. I play on the hard level. I can get 95 percent on the song “One” by Metallica.”
