Forum: Got questions for Washington DB Branden Smith?

Booker T. Washington cornerback Branden Smith said Friday night that he is replacing Auburn with archrival Alabama for one of his three remaining official visits.

“I just like what they have going on Alabama, especially with the defense,” Smith said. “When I first named my five official visits, Alabama just missed the list. But I’ve always been impressed with them. I’m glad it was able to work out for me to take an official visit there.”

Smith said he will travel to Alabama on Nov. 15, Florida State on Nov. 29, and UGA on Dec. 12. He has already taken recruiting trips to Florida and Tennessee.

Smith hasn’t ruled out making an unofficial visit to Auburn. “I’m still open, hearing everybody out.”

Smith is ranked as the state’s No. 1 prospect by numerous recruiting publications.

Do you have any recruiting or basic football questions for Branden Smith, ranked as the state’s No. 1 prospect by the AJC and Rivals? If so, post them below and Branden will do his best to answer them.

Branden, As an old school Douglass Astro who at our eighth grade orientation ( there was no middle school in 1977 ) was told the only requirement was to hate BTW You know this takes alot of humility. Dude please come to UGA. Follow your heart you know it’s in Athens

I know you will make the right decision. You told me when you were a freshman that you did not have any particular school in mind. You are consistent. As one mother’s recruit said ” Go where you are needed, not where you are wanted ” With that in mind Georgia and Georgia Tech would be good schools athletically and academically. You would be the second Football from BTW to go on a Football scholarship to attend Georgia Tech. Guess Brandon what high school the first afro-american to graduate from Georgia Tech came from ? You got it ! I will be supporting no matter where you attend !

Oh yeah, by the way, Georgia football is in the early stages of creating a national dynasty….. We woiuld love to make you part of this dynasty! Alabama Dawg Class Of 1982

Look, I’m not saying where you should go but to the guy saying living in Ga is better than Bama is crazy. I’d say it’s a toss up because I’ve lived in both states and think they are basically the same states.. Tuscaloosa and Athens are both great college towns. Of course Ga. has ATL and it’s fun there but it’s not somewhere you would want to live. Dude just go by where you feel most comfortable with the team and how you think you would get a better education and that my friend is on you. Both are fine places. Also If UGA is building a Dynasty I don’t know what #2 Alabama is doing over there in Tuscaloosa :) hehe

E. BERRY is hating TENN now and knows he should have picked GT or UGA and stayed home. If he went to GT he might be running the O as a QB or at UGA a DB helping a team get some PICK-6’s. The REAL question is what can you do for YOU? What do you want to study and if after 3 yrs in the NFL what will you do? BE a UGA GREAT that is now a talking head like B. Belue, E. ZIER, or D. Pollack and talk on the RADIO?

I realize that officiating is for the losers, but is anyone else looking at the 3 touchdowns that bad or no calls gave Florida. Even the TV guys were trying to cover them up. Fred Hunter, Greensboro

By GatorBill

November 2, 2008 7:59 AM | Link to this

To Fred Hunter above: As Branden would probably tell you, every cornerback in the country is taught the technique that Joe Haden used yesterday just before he moved underneath and intercepted Stafford. even at the high school level.

Same goes for the shirt grab by Murphy. Both techniques are extremely hard for a properly positioned official to spot, as Danielson pointed out on the telecast.

Frankly, the Georgia DB interfered with the Gator receiver just before the interception that was nullified by a Georgia D-lineman pushing up on a Gator O-lineman’s facemask so hard that he popped the helmet off.

And both techniques happen in every game, much like the old saying is that holding by the offensive line could probably be called on every play.

Brandon - choose a school where you will be happy. You have friends at Georgia like Rashad Jones but that was his choice. You have teachers from all over the SEC and other places. Also, Mr. Shelby, assistant principal, was a big time University of Alabama star who was on one of Bear Bryants’ championship teams and played professional football with the Cincinnati Bengals. However, these people made choices that were good for them. At the end of the day, choose a school where you will be happy and ultimately earn a degree just in case that NFL dream does not work-out. Please consider the academics strongly. And look out for yourself because college football is a big business and you better believe these schools are going to look out for themselves. Do not get caught up in the hype. Choose a school that will be about you and help you even when you can’t help them.

Branden. You should definitely go to the Bama/Auburn game and check out the atmosphere. Saban is the best DB coach in the nation and would have a talent like you going early in the NFL draft. The man is a genious on the defensive side of the ball. ROLL TIDE #1 team in the nation.

By Mark

Branden, I have been a BAMA fan for over 40 years and of course you would be an asset to the Tide, but the main thing is to be happy with your choice and not let others try to influence you into making a decision which is based on their own self interest. They should be happy for you and others that have this opportunity that most on here never have and never will. I hope you succeed in life and on the field, where ever you chose to go to college. Pay no attention to anyone begging you to come to their school. It’s a big life-changing decision and it should be yours and your family’s decision alone! Good luck in the future.

Roll Tide.

i think going to ugay would be a great decision (not). they are always number one in recruiting (blahhaha). what ever that gets you. they are always waiting on next year. what ever that gets you. they can always find a silver lining in the clouds when they get their arses kicked. on paper they are the best thing since sliced bread. it’s just to bad that the games are not played on paper or a ps3 or some other method, then ugay would never lose. oh yeah the education there is second to none. you can learn about cow crap or how chickens blow eggs out of their butts. go ahead knock yourself out. where was know show moreno or how ever you spell his name. great game stafford way to CHOKE.

Branden, Chad (above) is obviously a georgia tech fan as evidenced by his anger and crass words. He’s tired of losing to UGA each year, and is upset that tech will never have the caliber of class and talent as Georgia. The only unfortunate thing if you come to UGA is that you’ll have to listen to and read these unintelligent blurbs from jealous opposing fans. As long as you can deal with that, then come to UGA and help us win some championships (and continue beating the hell out of tech). Good Day.

Hey Brandon. I love Alabama, and we would love to have you at Alabama. Since you have some teachers and adminstrators on your staff from UA, please speak to them about their experiences at the university. Also, if you have the opportunity to attend the Alabama-Auburn game, please do. You will enjoy the visit. There are so many things going on in addition to the game such as the step shows. Academically, you can’t go wrong with Alabama. However, the bottom line is go where you feel you will grow the most. But, we look forward to showing you a good time at UA and hope that you will give our school some serious consideration. Can you say Rolltide? Hope so!
