Recruiting Q&A: LaGrange LB Qua Huzzie
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
LaGrange linebacker Qua Huzzie, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150 who has committed to Kentucky, talks about his choice and being recruited.
— On how much needling he took after Kentucky lost 63-5 to Florida? “There were a couple of things they can improve on. Like special teams. If they’d done better in that, it could have been a lot closer game. I got some of that in school — ‘Qua you still you still want to go there?’”
— On second thoughts after a game like that? “I didn’t have no second thoughts about it. It just wasn’t their day.”
— On the biggest selling point for UK: “I was looking at the colleges as a junior. I went up there when they beat LSU and it was a great atmosphere. I had a great feeling about it, and it just looked like a perfect place to go.”
— On a school he’s always been a fan of: “I used to always look up to Auburn and Florida. I liked Miami. I like Auburn because of the former players that played there, Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown, I liked the way they played.”
— On input from former LaGrange player from Tray Blackmon, who is at Auburn: “When I was going out for recruiting, he was giving me a lot of comments about what to do and what not to do. One of the biggest things he gave me was not to go by what a lot of people are saying about this school or that school, because you’re the one who is going to spend four years there.”
— On input from LaGrange coach Steve Pardue: “He just told me before I committed, ‘If Auburn were to offer you now, would you want to change your mind?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know, coach,’ and he said you have to question whether you’re really committed to going there.”
— On what he’d be if not a football player: “Probably still playing baseball. I’ve grown up playing baseball. I didn’t start playing football until my seventh grade year. If I weren’t playing sports I’d probably be working somewhere.”
— On what he wants to study in college: “Physical education or criminal justice. I’ve been around a lot of kids and refereed and coached a lot. I like it pretty good.”
— On the first school to talk to him: “Clemson was the first school that talked to me, but Kentucky was the first school that offered.”
— On autograph requests: “Sometimes if I’m out in town people stop and ask me. People send mail to the house and ask me to sign stuff. Kids I was refereeing for ask me for autograph.”
— On college games he’s been to as a fan: “My cousin Skyler Thornton played at Florida. I went and saw him play there a few times. It was really loud there.”
— On his biggest disappointment in the recruiting process: “Auburn recruited me, but I got really down because they didn’t offer.”

Hi Jay -
Maybe now you’ll follow up with the UGA commits and see how much “needling” they’re taking after UGA’s “crushing loss to Florida?”
