Mississippi State rescinds scholarship offer to Banneker LB
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Mississippi State rescinded its scholarship offer to Banneker linebacker Milton Patterson, the 5-foot-11, 230-pound member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150 said Thursday night.
“They told me they were full at that position,” he said. “Mississippi State was my top choice, but that’s life so I have to rethink my plan.”
Patterson said he spoke with Mississippi State assistant coach David Turner about the Bulldogs’ decision.
“Akron is my top choice now,” Patterson said. “I plan to go up there on Nov. 8 on an unofficial visit with my teammate Curtis Graney, but I’m hoping to make it an official visit.”
Patterson currently has offers from Akron, Savannah State and South Carolina State.
“I really wanted to play in the SEC,” he said. “That was my first choice, but football is football.”

Sometimes kids just miss the boat. If my top choices were Miss ST and Akron I would not sit around while other lb’s commit to my “top choice” and expect them to hold one for me.

Milton, why did you wait so long. If Miss St was the place you wanted and the SEC was the right league, why didn’t you accept???? Remember last year when kids got shut out of the colleges they wanted? Then they wondered how this happened to them. Did your coach not warn you this could happen?

Miss. St. is such a joke. They need as many quality bodies as they can get.
Who the heck is Miss St. to rescind someone’s scholly? They are the armpit of college athletics and should simply be thankful someone has interest in them.

Joe….My guess is MSU is a school that is full at LB and they need to use scholarships at other positions. They just cannot accept 10 players at the same position just to fill up their class. Give me a break!

Dude, forget Mississippi State. In the end, you were sure to lose a gang of games and you would probably get a second tier education…with a whole lot of folks that would not want YOU to be there. Go with a program that wants you. SC State has a pretty good program.

If that’s where the kid wanted to be AND it was his only SEC offer, why wait?

Fredrick you f@&%ing racist. It’s alway about race. Get over it. In life you make choices and yes not committing is a choice!! But I forget thats the easy way out, for a whole lot of folks like you.
The kid didn’t sound like he was mad he sounded disappointed, and that he might have made a mistake by not committing, but he also sounds like he had a back up plan and he’s doing what most people do pick themselves up and move on.
And FYI Freddie the headcoach at MSU is a black guy.

Let this be a lesson for other recruits. Unless you are a 5* or high 4* player, if you have an offer you really like, TAKE IT. You are not good enough to sit back and wait on a SEC, ACC offer like a Brandon Smith. I expect you will see a lot more of this before National SIgning Day.
