Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino gets commitment from East Paulding’s Brown

East Paulding running back Jahron Brown pulled the trigger on a commitment to Arkansas Monday evening.

“It’s very exciting,” the 5-foot-11, 214-pound Brown said. “I never really thought of being an Arkansas Razorback, but they gave me a full ride.

“And I’d love to play for coach [Bobby] Petrino. None of this has hit me yet, but I know it will.”

Brown is the first Georgia player this year to commit to Petrino, who abruptly resigned as coach of the NFL’s Falcons during last season to take over at Arkansas. Petrino returned to his stomping grounds last year to sign two prospects from the state, including Chattahoochee defensive back Elton Ford.

Brown, whose other offer is from Western Carolina, plans to take an official visit to Fayetteville, Ark., in December or January.

Auburn recruit Lutzenkirchen impressed after Florida unofficial visit

Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen went to Florida looking for something new. What he found was something very familiar.

Lutzenkirchen - an Auburn commitment - took an unofficial visit to Gainesville this weekend. The experience proved to be not all that different from the a Saturday with the Tigers.

“Their facilities and their field kind of reminded me of Auburn,” Lutzenkirchen said. “They have some really nice facilities. You could tell academics are first there, and they’re a close knit family.”

Among the things that impressed Lutzenkirchen was Gators head coach Urban Meyer. The Trojan senior got to see the softer side of the often fiery skipper.

“Coach Meyer was pretty cool,” Lutzenkirchen said. “I was expecting him to be kind of hard-nosed. He’s actually really funny. He was joking around before the game. He’s actually a really nice guy.”

Lutzenkirchen is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. He remains firmly committed to Auburn but plans on visiting other schools until the Tigers hire a new offensive coordinator.

Dutchtown’s Joe Stewart may follow NFL dad’s footsteps to Missouri

Dutchtown playmaker Joe Stewart is wise to listen to his father, Joe Sr., a former NFL receiver.

But that doesn’t mean he’ll follow Dad’s footsteps in college. Joe Sr. still holds record at the University of Missouri, and while the Tigers are on the younger Stewart’s lengthy list of offers he may not end up at the Big 12 school.

“He put everything on me and says whatever I want, wherever I want to go,” Stewart said of his father’s advice in the recruiting process. “He says, ‘If you’re good enough they’ll come and find you.’”

Which may or may not mean Mizzou. The 6-foot, 165-pound “athlete” with 4.4 speed in the 40 also has offers from Stanford, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Central Florida, Hawaii, along with several smaller programs.

Alabama is in the mix, too, although an offer hasn’t come yet. Stewart, who projects as a receiver/kick returner in college, said Alabama wrote him a few weeks ago to tell him that they were coming to see him play and has been in contact since.

“They’ve been contacting me every week. I’m hoping they’ll offer,” he said.

Stewart has visits planned to Missouri, Central Florida and Stanford, and would like to swing a visit to Hawaii, for obvious reasons.
