Mt. Zion WR Dexter Copeland hears from Georgia Tech

Mt. Zion-Jonesboro wide receiver Dexter Copeland attended Georgia Tech’s homecoming game against Virginia Saturday.

“Tech is his top choice,” Mt. Zion coach Jarrett Laws said. “They are going to invite him back to another game.

Laws said Copeland’s only offer is from Alabama A&M.

“The offers will come,” he said.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior has 684 yards receiving this season and nine touchdowns. He averages more than 35 yards on punt returns.

Laws said Tech assistant coach Buzz Preston likes Copeland’s size and playability.

“They are requesting more film, and they see a lot of potential,” he said.

Laws said Copeland lost his starting role as quarterback last season to a sophomore.

“He never complained once,” he said. “He coached the kid on how to be a better quarterback and volunteered to be a wide receiver. He is my pseudo quarterback’s coach.”

Copeland carries a 3.1 GPA, and Laws said his work ethic is impeccable.

“He works at his craft everyday,” he said. “He is never afraid to be the go-to guy. He craves it.”
