How It Went: $4 Sprite and trip to The Varsity for Flowery Branch DE Izaan Cross
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Flowery Branch defensive end Izaan Cross’s gameday experience at Georgia Tech on Saturday, included paying $4 for a Sprite at a Bobby Dodd Stadium concession stand and a trip to The Varsity following the Jackets’ 24-17 loss to Virginia.
“It was a good game,” said Cross, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150. “There were a lot of people there.
“The game didn’t turn out the way the fans expected it to. But it was a nice visit.”
Cross spent most of the day in the recruiting section before briefly talking to several Tech coaches afterwards.
“I saw coach [Paul] Johnson, but he wasn’t in the talking mood,” Cross said. “We shook hands.”
Cross told the AJC recently that he’s leaning toward Tech. Cross said he’s considering scholarship offers from Tech, Arkansas, Clemson, Maryland and North Carolina.

How It Went: Carver’s Dennis given assignment during Georgia Tech visit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Carver running back Demond Dennis was given a designated task prior to Saturday’s Georgia Tech-Virginia game at Grant Field.
“When I got there, [Tech assistant] coach [Buzz] Preston was asking me to watch the game and how they utilize the A-backs,” said Dennis, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150.
Though the game was not a sellout, Dennis was impressed with the fan support.
“The people there were really into the game,” he said. “Those are the type of fans I want to play for.”
Dennis continues to wait and see if the Jackets will offer him.
“I think they’re close to offering,” he said. “They said they really like me in their offense.”

How It Went: Cedartown’s Brown visits Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Cedartown defensive back Brandon Brown was among the recruiting visitors in attendance for Georgia Tech’s homecoming game against Virginia on Saturday.
“I really liked it. It was the second time I went to a game there this year,” said Brown, who also attended the Mississippi State-Tech contest last month.
“It was a good crowd. And I like playing in front of a lot of people.”
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Brown’s single scholarship offer is from Navy. He says the Tech coaching staff continues to hint that the Jackets may also offer him.
“I think I’m close [to an offer from Tech],” he said. “[The Tech coaches] talk about it, but haven’t done it yet.”
Brown, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, said he’ll likely attend the Jackets’ home game against Florida State on Saturday.

Heritage NG Melvin Jones receives first offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Heritage nose guard Melvin Jones received an offer from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., assistant coach Chris Peck said.
“They just started recruiting me after they saw my highlight,” said Jones, a 6-foot, 315-pound member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. “They were impressed with my size and that I could move very good laterally.”
Jones will visit Presbyterian on Nov. 15.
Middle Tennessee, Louisville, Memphis, Central Florida and Auburn have expressed an interest in Jones as well. He said he wouldn’t necessarily be drawn by the lure of a bigger program.
“Whichever school I feel the most comfortable with, that’s the one I’m going to pick,” said Jones, who plans on majoring in business administration. “It’s not all about being an athlete. If it’s a good academic program, more than likely I’m going to like it.”

Lakeside-Evans LB Kyle Tudor says East Carolina fans are “louder” than UGA’s
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lakeside-Evans’ Kyle Tudor grew up a University of Georgia fan. He has been to countless games, because his parents are season-ticket holders.
Tudor always had dreams of playing for Georgia and went to UGA’s prospect camp last summer but could not fully participate because of an injury. Georgia never offered but does send letters of interest to Tudor, who has committed to East Carolina. Tudor is sold on ECU, in part because of its fans. Tudor visited ECU in September.
“They’re more pumped up than Georgia fans,” he said. “It was louder in that stadium than it was at Georgia. It just seems like ECU fans are always standing no matter what’s going on.”
Tudor, who played safety last year and led the team with 140 tackles, has been moved to linebacker this season after gaining about 20 pounds. That puts him at 215. He figures he can add another 20 pounds on his 6-4 frame and possibly play defensive end at East Carolina.
Other schools - North Carolina State, Miami of Ohio, Wofford, Coastal Carolina - still contact Tudor regularly, but not even the Bulldogs can steal the future East Carolina player.
“I’ve been a Georgia fan all my life, but I told ECU I would go there and they told me they’d stop recruiting [other linebackers],” said Tudor, who doesn’t have any more visits planned. “I’m pretty solid with them and I want to play as soon as possible and I know at Georgia the depth [chart] is so deep.”

Heritage junior DB Garry Peters favors Florida over UGA, Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia and Georgia Tech have requested film on Heritage junior sensation Garry Peters. But Florida has inside position for one of the state’s top prospects for 2010.
“Florida is his favorite,” Heritage coach Chad Frazier said. “If they offered, that is where he would want to go.”
Frazier said Georgia assistant Jon Fabris and Georgia Tech assistant Brian Jean-Mary came to Heritage to request film on Peters.
“He is a phenomenal football player,” Frazier said. “He is one of the better athletes I’ve seen in 12 years of coaching.”
Only South Carolina has offered the 6-foot, 180-pounder. Tennessee, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Florida, Oregon and Indiana, among others, have requested film.
“He has got to work on taking everything a little more serious,” Frazier said. “But as far as his athletic ability, he is phenomenal.”
Peters plays quarterback and defensive back for Heritage and is being recruited at cornerback and safety.
“Defensively, he can diagnose plays before they happen,” Frazier said. “If he makes a mistake, he can easily recover.”

McEachern TE Terrell Mitchell likely to pick UGA if they offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
McEachern tight end Terrell Mitchell said if he performs well on his SAT, then UGA has promised a football scholarship.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Mitchell said he was told about the deal by Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner and Georgia tight ends coach John Lilly.
“[They] said if I get over a 1400 then they will offer. I think I at least got a 1750 [on my last SAT test],” said Mitchell, who is waiting for his scores.
Mitchell, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, has nearly 15 offers. He said Kentucky, Georgia and Alabama are his top three choices.
“I’m not going to commit until I weigh all my options,” he said. “I don’t want to overlook anything, but if Georgia offers they will most likely be my choice.”
Mitchell does not have any official visits scheduled, but he hopes to attend a South Carolina or Kentucky game in the next few weeks.

Georgia Tech, Florida taking closer look at McNair’s Nathaniel Anthony
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Columbia tailback Nathaniel Anthony has attracted interest from Georgia Tech, Clemson and Florida.
“(The coaches) like my speed and they know I can catch the ball,” said Anthony, who was scheduled to visit Georgia Tech on Saturday.
“For Tech, they like the fact that we run a similar offense to theirs. Florida is looking for a small, speed back while Clemson is looking for two all-around backs.”
Anthony has impressive credentials: The 5-foot-9, 180 pounder carries a 3.5 grade point average, runs the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds and averages 127 rushing yards per game and 8.5 yards per carry.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Kell tight end Will Middleton is starting to get looks from some non-Southern schools. After earning a scholarship offer from Ohio last week, the Longhorn senior is getting calls from UConn.
“They asked my coaches for copies of my transcripts,” Middleton said. “I don’t know a lot about them yet, but I know they’re a good school.”
Middleton is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150. He said he was interested in the Huskies and would like to hear more about what they have to offer. UConn has yet to offer a scholarship.
