North Gwinnett DB earns first major-college offer

North Gwinnett cornerback Robert Nelson has been offered by Akron.

North Gwinnett coach Bob Sphire thinks there will be more offers in the future for the 5-10, 160-pound transfer from Tucker High.

“He moved from Tucker [and] he didn’t get on the field last year,” said Sphire. “Everything’s kind of heating up for him; he’s really having a great year.”

Akron’s Mid-American rival, Western Michigan, visited Tuesday to look at film on Nelson; Western Kentucky stopped by Wednesday.

“He really fits the mold of a true ‘cover corner,’” Sphire added. “I expect a lot more action on [Nelson].”
