Tennesse-bound Toney Williams putting up big numbers for Milton

Milton coach Scott Walker has always admired Toney Williams’ commitment, whether to training or to University of Tennessee, whose struggling 3-4 record still hasn’t made the Eagles running back think twice about accepting a scholarship.

“Barring something happening with [coach Phillip] Fulmer, that’s where he’s going,” Walker said of Williams, a player on The Georgia 150 who committed to the Vols two weeks before spring practices and plans to begin there academically this spring. “I don’t think he’s wavered one bit.”

Williams, who has 1,441 yards and 19 touchdowns rushing entering Friday’s Region 6-AAAAA game against visiting Roswell, plans to attend the Vols’ home game Saturday’s against Alabama.

Walker said his 6-foot-1, 227-pound back had 18 offers when he committed, and because of his size, could have fit into pretty much anyone’s offense.

“Probably the only school I hadn’t talked to [about Williams] in the SEC was LSU,” Walker said.
