Road Trip: Maryland offers McCoy as he preps for trip to Tech

A new scholarship offer arrived in the mail today for Northview defensive tackle Denzel McCoy, less than 48 hours before a visit to Georgia Tech on Saturday to watch the Jackets host Virginia.

“I’ve been talking to the offensive line coach [Tom Brattan] at Maryland,” said McCoy, who also has offers from Alabama, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Memphis, North Carolina, N.C. State, Oregon, Penn State, Stanford, Vanderbilt and West Virginia. “He came to my school last month and said there would be an opportunity for them to offer me.

“It’s pretty exciting. I have family in Maryland.”

McCoy, who has already attended three Tech home games this season, hopes to accomplish a single goal on Saturday prior to the 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

“I’m going to try to get more information as far as the academic programs they offer,” he said. “They’re an engineering school and I want to major in computer science.

“I want to look at the academic side into what they have versus what the other schools don’t have.”

McCoy, a junior, will be accompanied on his trip to Tech with his parents and a friend.

GT has an excellent computer science program and the future of the GT football program is very bright!

You cannot go wrong if you decide to attend college at GT!

Good luck making the decision which is best for you and your family/friends.

Uhhhhhhhh, OK. If we can’t sell this kid on the value of a computer science degree from Tech, then we don’t deserve his consideration.

I’m a CS Major and love my CS Classes. The Klaus building will sell the kid in a minute.

Not only do we have one of the best computer science programs in the country, we will also have 2 or 3 defensive lineman drafted this year!

We really need dline help this year. You might win a starting position as a freshman. You should come to Tech.

I’m CmpE ‘99. Your CS degree from Tech will be world class. I’ll go ahead and assume you’ll be accepting the offer ‘cause the only schools that may have a better CS program don’t even have a football team (Carnegie Mellon), much less a kick a$$ program.
