WR Rantavious Wooten commits to UGA

Wide receiver Rantavious Wooten of Belle Glade, Fla., confirmed through a text message that he switched his commitment from LSU to Georgia on Monday.

The 5-foot-10, 158-pound Wooten took an official visit to Georgia this past weekend and apparently was won over by the Bulldogs. He is commitment No. 16 for UGA’s 2009 recruiting class.

Georgia has always been in the running for Wooten. He was perhaps the most dominant performer at Georgia’s July prospect camp, earning attention from Georgia head coach Mark Richt and wide receivers coach John Eason.

Wooten committed to LSU in August, saying he narrowly picked the Tigers over UGA. However, Wooten sent a text message on Monday morning indicating he had changed his mind, according to Rivals.

Could Wooten change his mind again before National Signing Day? Georgia coaches will do their best to guard Wooten’s commitment until Feb. 4.

I don’t trust him … don’t be surprised if he switches again. I won’t “hold my breathe” on him until February. I really dislike it when these kids do this, but hey are kids — and all that it entails: stupid, impressionable, eager to please. When you make a commitment you are done — I’d understand if there was a coaching change like in Clemson, but …

good Luck kid. Go to UGA ad lose to Tech every day.

Seriously, how pathetic is UGA?

CMR has no killer instinct and even if UGA beats LSU who sucks, they’ll lose to Florida by 40.

Then the Doggies will be on mass suicide alert as PJ and the Buzz-saw O rus through that No Mas Martinez D for the biggest upset by GT in a decade.

I see the bugs are showing their jealousy out loud. While they’re pulling in guys like Gaybo Shaw, we’re pulling in guys like Wooten and Murray. Poor insects, they still think that they’re our biggest rivalry. They are a rivalry, but i put them behind Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee.

Tech barbs are like water off a duck’s back. Keep wasting your wit, bugs. The moment of truth is coming on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Have you call come up with a better chant than, “that’s alright, that’s ok, you’ll be working for us someday”? Or, is that one still part of the post-loss repertoire?

Wooten and all recruits have the right to check out all their options before signing day. Why should a guy be “loyal” to any particular school before he’s even played a snap? Herschel Walker almost signed with Clemson, but his time on campus turned him into a True Dawg who LOVES the DawgNation.

Doug, This guy was the most dominating athlete at a Georgia camp this past summer. No cornerbacks wanted any part of him in the 1-on-1 drills. He has cat-like quickness and reaches top speed in a few steps. He is like the other Fla kid Nukeece Richardson that the Dawgs wanted but is an inch taller. He played quaterback and reciever last year so this kid has exceptional athletic ability regardless of his size. Do your homework buddy.

Hey Jacket Key, have you guys beat UGA this decade? That option crap might work in the ACC, but not in the SEC. It’s just funny you have to pull for someone else to beat us because Tech can’t.

Rantavious, if you’re reading this blog, nevermind the anti-UGA bloggers and welcome to the Bulldog Nation! The only reason those haters come on here in the first place is because they are jealous of us. Whether it be Stafford or Murray throwing to you, you’re guaranteed a quality QB. Congratulations on a great decision! GO DAWGS!

Unless I’m missing something or rivals has it wrong, a 5’10” 158 lb Wideout with only a 4.5 40 time is not impressive. Our fullbacks run 4.5’s. I expect someone this tiny to be a complete speed deamon or else he’s too small for football. Perhaps the score is not accurate. But if it is, he is no Chris Rainey. Rainey runs a sub 4.3, olympic style. I’m thinking the 4.5 score must not be accurate.

But I’m sure the Georgia coaches know what they are doing. I’m going to flip over to scout.com to see what they say. Rivals seems to be up Florida’s a$$ every year anyway. I’m going to start going to scout.com more often.

Im not saying whether this guy is good or bad but quit just looking at how tall or how much the weigh or what they run in a 40 with no pads on. Who cares!! He most likely would need a redshirt and then lets see what happens. Rennie Curran ain’t very tall but the guy plays like he is 6’4. I’m all about what these guys do in real games with real pads on.

First off let me say welcome to Wooten. Congrats on becoming a Georgia Bulldawg, you will not regret it.

Hey Charlotte Dawg, I subscribe to scout and they are much better than Rivals. Scout focuses more on southern players. He runs about a 4.3 but has unbelievable moves. He can make one move and be gone. just watch some video. Also he did dominate the camp at Georgia and no CB there wanted any part of him. Branden Smith was there but didn’t go against him because he was injured, but Coach Richt commented that he thought Wooten would have beaten him as well. This guy will be a play maker, no doubt. I just hope he stays with us.

As far as not liking when recruits decommit, I hate when they do it on signing day because that leaves the team they were commited to out to dry. But I have no problem with them doing it well before signing day. That way the school can offer someone else a Scholly. They are 17 and 18 years old. Even they don’t know what they want till it happens.

GO DAWGS!!!

Hey Dawgs Rule, excellent points. Those last-minute decommitters screw over everybody else just so they can get some extra media attention. Four years later, their “shocking” switch isn’t going to be worth jack. All anybody will remember is if those guys became superstars or busts.

Speaking of last minute changes of heart on Signing day, perhaps someone can ask Dwayne Allen how he feels about his last minute switch to Clemson. My guess his Mr. Allen would not be available for a comment. Sorry Dwayne, shouldn’t have screwed us over like that. Now your with a club that will be irrelevant for the next few years. Other recruits, take notice.

To Dawgs Rule, I knew the 4.5 posting couldn’t be legit. But where are you getting confirmation of a 4.3? I believe you, just want to know where to find such things. A 4.3 speed is what I would expect from a very small player such as this to be offered by Georgia and be compared to Chris Rainey. The same thing seemed to happen with Carlton Thomas. I was like “he’s 5.7-165 and runs a 4.6? What am I missing here?” But then I hear from folks that he runs a 4.3. Now that makes sense. And his videos make him seem faster than 4.6.

However, any kid that does this kind of flip flopping has the potential to do it again. So lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I will have to somewhat agree about the previous comment that we shouldn’t look at stats so much. B/c if you looked at Bryan Evans’ weight, height, and 4.3 40 speed, you would think he would be the next Champ Bailey. And then comes game day where every opposing QB is coached to throw the ball to #3’s side whenever he’s in there. The guy might be athletic but that doesn’t mean a hill of beans when your always out of position. Its time to give someone else a shot. He’s killing us.

Ok, I’m done ranting.

Welcome to the Bulldawg Nation Mr. Wooten! And if you get called by LSU, which I’m sure you will, remember how many times you’ll have to evacuate b/c of hurricanes down in Baton Rouge. We don’t have any of that crap up here in Athens!

Hey Charlotte Dawg, you can’t measure quickness by 40 yard dash times. If I’m correct this is one of those kids that ESPN ran features on regarding the use of rabbits to enhance their quickness. Rabbits are not always faster than their predators but their ability to stop and cut gives them that element of elusiveness a la Barry Sanders & Peter Warrick. I’m sure you remember how exceptional those two guys were at making people miss. If Richt says this guys was the most impressive at camp, I’m sure more than 40 time was factored. People stop hatin and being stat sheet junkies. Wait for the kid to prove (or disprove) himself on the field before you pass judgement.

As for him being fickle or changing his mind back and forth, the way I see it is that he finally experiences life on the campus of UGA and has a chance to make an informed decision. He probably committed to LSU too early, however all of us DAWG fans know he made the right decision (smile)!!
