Miller Grove’s Gilstrap gets dual offer from Western Kentucky

Miller Grove wide receiver Kenneth Gilstrap, a blue-chip track and field recruit as a sprinter, was offered a football scholarship from Western Kentucky this weekend, giving him his first dual offer to compete in both sports in college.

He also heard from Vanderbilt about their interest in his football skills.

He said Saturday that recruiters from Western Kentucky and Vandy visited the school to talk to him on Friday, then watched Miller Grove play Marist that night, a 35-13 loss. Gilstrap scored a touchdown in the loss.

Western, which offered Gilstrap a track scholarship earlier this year, also offered the football scholarship. Vanderbilt wanted to see more video.

Gilstrap wants to play both sports in college. Among his track offers are Kentucky, South Carolina, Kansas State, Louisville and Georgia Tech. Other football offers are from Ohio, Richmond, Middle Tennessee and UAB.

“I like both of them, but I just want to compete,” he said.

Gilstrap has tentatively planned a visit to Western Kentucky on Nov. 1 and Middle Tennessee Nov. 8.
