Auburn recruit Lutzenkirchen exploring options after Franklin’s release

Tony Franklin has fallen out of favor with Auburn. The Tigers may be doing the same with Lassiter’s Philip Lutzenkirchen.
Lutzenkirchen, a 6-foot-4, 240 pound tight end, has been loyal to the Tigers through and through until the past week, when Franklin was fired as Auburn’s offensive coordinator. He indicated via text message Wednesday that he will now explore his options until the Tigers fill the position.
The Trojans senior has attended virtually every Auburn home game and familiarized himself with campus life during the recruiting period. He wasn’t planning on taking an official visit until the week of bowl preparation later in the season.
Lutzenkirchen said he will now visit other schools. That list could include Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Miami (Fla.), Florida State and Oklahoma. Lutzenkirchen is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150.
He is the No. 9 tight end prospect in the nation by Scout and No. 5 prospect by Rivals. Lassiter runs a version of the spread offense that is similar to the one Franklin was running at Auburn. The transition would have been a smooth one for the versatile tight end.

Are you a professional journalist? We are not, nor ever have been, the “War Eagles.” We are the Auburn Tigers.

His transition would still be just as “smooth”, possibly even smoother now. Tuberville still insists AU will be running “some type of spread offense”, but will remain loyal to the run.
AU could sure use Lutzenkirchen’s talent, but he needs to follow his heart.

If the firing of Franklin alters his commitment, he never was a true Auburn commit. Auburn is much bigger than Franklin. Looks like this kid needs to move on as his loyalty was never with Auburn.

That’s not fair to say that he wasn’t a true Auburn commit. He has offers from a lot of good schools and wants to go where is best for him. It is his future on the line, not ours. With the firing of Franklin it is reasonable for a recruit to think that he may be getting a different deal than he already signed up for, and he just wants to make sure AU is right for him. If Franklin was one of his major recruiters, he also lost a major contact with the university.
I hope he comes to AU. We sure could use him. But let’s not dog on the guy because he wants to make the best decision for himself. He has obviously demonstrated great interest in AU, so let’s treat the kid with respect. You can’t expect an 18 year old kid to be 100% loyal to a team or school that he is not yet a part of.
Come to AU Phil. WE need you!!!

If he goes to KY he could start as a true freshman most likely. But at least have major playing time. KY is doing some nice things up there and Coach Brooks is a solid football man and a gentleman.
