When North Cobb defensive tackle Derrick Lott makes an unofficial visit to UGA on Saturday, it won’t be as “one of the state’s top uncommitted prospects.”
No, it will be as commitment No. 15 for Georgia’s 2009 recruiting class. Lott picked the Bulldogs over South Carolina, Louisville, and Oklahoma State on Thursday night, less than a week after he was offered by Georgia.
“It feels great to get the decision over with, and it’s feel great for Georgia to be my decision,” Lott said. “Now that [recruiting] is out of the way, I can focus 100-percent back on my high school team, my school work, and my social life.”
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Lott said no one was more excited outside his family more than North Cobb coach Shane Queen. “He was screaming when Georgia offered me, and he was just as excited when I committed to Georgia. Coach Queen had never had any of his players offered by Georgia in his 15 years of coaching, so it was special to him and really meant a lot.”
