Walton’s David Paulsen got to see what football was like outside of the Southeast this past weekend. The 6-foot-3, 236 pound defensive end liked what he saw.
Paulsen took an official visit to Miami (Ohio) in Oxford. The Redhawks join Tulane, Duke, Georgia and Oklahoma State in the senior’s top-five. He already has visited Tulane and plans on traveling to Stillwater, Okla., in November.
Miami proved to be a unique experience.
“It’s a different kind of place,” Paulsen said. “It’s almost like a mini-Athens. You’re driving through these cornfields to get there, and then you find this incredible campus in the middle of everything. I really felt comfortable there.”
Paulsen is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. While he has been entertaining several suitors, he said he enjoyed what the Miami experience had to offer.
“There’s a lot going on there for such a small place,” Paulsen said. “The Saturday I was there we had a football game. There was a hockey game on campus, and Jay Leno was supposed to be in town. So it was great to see the town like that.”
While Paulsen didn’t get to exchange jokes with Leno, he did rub elbows with the Redhawks players during a team meal and on gameday.
“It’s just a place you feel comfortable,” Paulsen said. “They didn’t win the game I saw, but you can tell they have a lot of potential as a team. It would fun to be a part of that.”
