Cartersville’s Donavan Tate, who is projected to be a first-rounder in June’s professional baseball draft, is flying to Southern Cal this weekend for his first official visit in football.
Tate, who has more than 30 football offers, is considering playing both sports in college.
“I’ve had a lot of conversations with the Southern Cal coaches, and they are very supportive of me playing football and baseball there,” Tate said.
Tate, who is being recruited by colleges at both quarterback and safety, will also take recruiting trips to North Carolina and Michigan. He said will likely decide among Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Miami for his final two official visits.

This kid is not going to go to college, I don’t even know why colleges are giving him a chance. He quit playing football over the summer missed the first couple of games before deciding to play. If I were the coach I would tell him that he would of not been able to play. All the colleges need to watch out because he is going to get a big check for baseball that many kids his age can and will not turn down!

I know Donavan, and my advise is to go baseball, to keep his ranking high within the MLB draft for 2009. If he continues to fluctuate between going pro and going to college, his lofty status could drop him into the later rounds. But, it’s his life! The desicion to go to college would also be a positive move for his future,as well..either way it’s a win win situation for him! Go Donavan, and Good Luck!! Craig Henry
