Auburn commit Harris of Lovejoy says he’s still a Tiger

Lovejoy offensive lineman Andre Harris learned around 8 p.m. tonight that Tony Franklin won’t be his offensive coordinator when he enrolls at Auburn next year.

“I understand that they had to do what’s right for the team,” said Harris, who is rated as the 23rd-best offensive guard in the nation by Scout.com and a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150. “So, I’m not going to disagree with them.”

Harris’ said his commitment isn’t impacted by the decision to replace the offensive coordinator.

“Regardless of who’s coaching me, I’m still going to be an Auburn Tiger,” said Harris, who will play on the Auburn offensive line at guard or tackle. “I can play on any offense.

“I don’t have a preference on a type of offense. My job is to block and get the running backs going and to protect the quarterback.”

Andre Harris obviously is a very inteligent young man. This is an example for others in all areas of life (not just football) to follow. I applaud your commitment to Auburn.

So where does Auburn stand? They are stuck somewhere between “committed to the spread offense” and no apparent interest in the spread whatsoever. How would you like to be one of those prized 2009 recruits right about now?

Raymond Cotton, 4-Star QB:

"Actually I was a little disappointed to see him go. He was the one who offered me and was the one I talked to most of the time so it's a little messed up to see him let go like that. But I'm committed to Auburn. I don't think this will impact my recruitment. That's all I can say." (emphasis added)

Brandon Heavens, 3-Star WR:

"When I first heard I was like, 'Whoa.' I couldn't believe it. I kept asking everybody if it was true or just a rumor. They kept telling me it was true but I couldn't believe it. It probably doesn't change my commitment. I feel like I'm still going to go to Auburn. I'm just curious what kind of offense we're going to run now." (emphasis added)

Philip Lutzenkirchen, 4-Star TE

"I'm a little disappointed in the fact that they are probably going to get rid of the spread. It was one of the reasons I picked Auburn, but I wouldn't say it was the biggest reason I chose Auburn. Me liking the coaching staff, the campus, the whole atmosphere, those are much bigger reasons than the offense. I'm still committed. I want to talk to the coaches and get their thoughts on it." (emphasis added)

These kids need to rethink where they need to go. It has nothing to do with keeping a commitment, when they made the commitment with that Franklin being the OC. It would be like someone taking a job, and finding out before they start with the company their future manager has left the company.

The way things are going, Tommy may be next to go.
