Georgia Tech recruit Chris Crenshaw finished flirting with South Carolina

Jefferson County defensive end Chris Crenshaw made eight tackles and sacked the quarterback once during the Warriors’ 14-12 victory over Swainsboro on Friday.

His effort came in front of Georgia Tech recruiting coordinator Giff Smith.

“He had asked me [earlier] which game I wanted him to come to,” said Crenshaw, who committed to the Jackets in June. “We had a chance to talk some before the game.”

Crenshaw’s commitment was called into question last month when he told GoGamecocks.com that he was interested in South Carolina.

But as he has done for the past three weeks, Crenshaw says he’s sticking with the Jackets.

“I still feel good about [the commitment to Tech],” said Crenshaw, whose next scheduled trip to Bobby Dodd Stadium is for the Jackets’ Thursday Nov. 20 contest against Miami.

Crenshaw, who is listed as the 83rd-best defensive end in the nation by Scout.com, is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150.

Norcross DB Prince Kent experiences Miami-Florida St. rivalry

Norcross defensive back Prince Kent wanted to see the rivalry up close and personal.

The Florida State-Miami game might not have the juice it had years ago, but it’s still one of the most heated rivalries in college football.

“It was a great time,” said Kent, who has committed to the Hurricanes. “It’s one of the biggest rivalries. I just felt the whole vibe, with the intensity being as high as it is.”

Kent’s flight out on Friday was canceled and he arrived Saturday just in time for the afternoon game. The senior cornerback/receiver went down with teammate Matt Autry, another member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150 list.

Kent, who committed in August, said he communicates with Miami coaches weekly, mostly via e-mail. They talk about football, and secondary coach Wesley McGriff is “always on my back” making sure Kent is on top of his school work.”

Auburn, Stanford make recruiting pitches to Tech-bound LB Emanuel Dieke

Auburn and Stanford haven’t given up on luring North Clayton linebacker Emanuel Dieke away from his commitment to Georgia Tech.

“Some have got the picture that I’m committed to Tech, but there are one or two that are still [recruiting me],” said Dieke, who confirmed that he continues to hear from the Tigers and Cardinal.

But Auburn and Stanford’s pleas appear to be falling on deaf ears.

“Things are great with Tech,” said Dieke, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 choice. “The program is looking good. They’re winning games.

“I hope to get there in the spring and help the team.”

Dieke likes the fact that Tech coach Paul Johnson is open to playing freshmen on a regular basis.

“He puts the best players on the field,” said Dieke, who hopes to attend Tech’s home game against Gardner-Webb on Saturday. “If you show that you have the ability to play as a freshman, he’ll put you out there.”

Tech receivers coach Buzz Preston was in attendance during North Clayton’s 39-6 victory over Forest Park at Tara Stadium on Friday.

“I didn’t get to talk to him that much,” Dieke said. “I try not to think about [scouts assessing him]. I just go out and play hard every game regardless of who is watching.”

Tucker DL Deion Roberson still in a cast, but hears from three new schools

Injured Tucker defensive lineman Deion Roberson still has a cast on his injured left ankle and won’t begin his rehab for a few weeks.

Roberson said he was due last week to have a walking boot put on the ankle that he severely dislocated during the second play of the season, but couldn’t be fitted for one. He said his size 15 foot was the problem. “They didn’t have my size,” he said.

Roberson’s next doctor’s appointment is Oct. 20, he said, and by that time he hopes to be completely off crutches.

“I was looking forward to the boot, but I guess things happen,” he said.

Roberson said he has scheduled an official visit Nov. 22 to Louisville. He also said he has heard from three new schools (Kentucky, UCLA, Rutgers), but there were no offers.

The 6-foot-3, 258 pound senior says he has had offers from North Carolina State, Memphis, Duke, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama.

As for returning to the field for Tucker this season, Roberson still hopes to play sometime during the playoffs.

Peachtree Ridge’s Norman making visits

Peachtree Ridge defensive back Connor Norman, who visited Furman last weekend, will make an unofficial visit to Wofford on Oct. 11.

Norman, an AJC The Georgia 150 prospect who runs a 4.3 40-yard dash, also visited Ohio in September and may accept Coastal Carolina’s invitation to visit.

The 5-foot-10, 186-pound Norman said he isn’t leaning toward any school. His only offer is from Army.

How It Went: Chamblee’s Norman greeted by festive atmosphere in Nashville

Vanderbilt commit and Chamblee running back Warren Norman had a hunch that the Commodores were going to upset Auburn in Music City on Saturday.

“I actually thought they could do it,” said Norman, who, along with his parents and brother, attended Vandy’s victory over the Tigers. “I knew it would be a really good game.

“Both teams have good defenses.”

After arriving in Nashville around 3 p.m., Norman, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 selection, quickly realized he was about to witness something very special.

“The atmosphere made it feel like a bowl game,” Norman said. “It was great.

“If it wasn’t for the [sign] telling people not to run on the field, I think the whole stadium would have run out there.”

Norman believes Saturday’s victory will have a long-term impact for Vanderbilt.

“The program is heading in the right direction,” he said. “Beating Auburn on national television will help recruiting.”
