Florida interested, too, after UGA offers North Cobb DT Derrick Lott

Within hours after Georgia offered North Cobb defensive tackle Derrick Lott, Florida also tried to get involved with recruiting of Lott.

“Florida called my coaches and said they heard that Georgia offered me, and they [Florida] wanted to know if I was interested in them, too,” Lott said on Sunday night.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Lott has seen his life change since he was offered by Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner on Thursday night. After Lott hung up the phone, he called his high school coaches, who screamed with excitement because they had never coached a player offered by the Bulldogs.

Friday at school, Lott was besieged by a study flow of well-wishers, including both classmates and facility. At Friday night’s game, Georgia assistant Stacey Searels was in attendance to watch Lott’s every move.

“It has been a wild last few days, that’s for sure,” Lott said.

Lott said he really likes Georgia, but is not ready to announce a college decision. He said Garner has not pressured him into making a rush decision, instead just saying the Bulldogs have officially offered and that Georgia’s coaching staff looks forward to talking in person at Saturday’s Tennessee game.

“I’m excited, and a lot of other people are excited about Georgia, but we have to see how everything is going to play out,” Lott said.

Georgia has had its eyes on Lott since he dominated at the college’s prospect camp last June. The Bulldogs promised an offer if Lott improved his grades and test scores. Lott has performed both, and Georgia kept its word with the scholarship last Thursday.

Lott said he wants to makes some more visits and talk more with coaches before making any college decision.

“I don’t really have a top five, or top two, or whatever,” Lott said. “I’m open to everyone until I commit.”

I hope this guy is better than what the scouting services, that I’ve looked at, say he is. I have not seen him ranked anything better than the 41st best DT on Rivals, Scout, or ESPN. Don’t get me wrong, that is great for Lott to be rated there nationally, being that there are thousands of players across the country, but when you are talking about big time college programs the 40th rated DT in the country isn’t anything to really get excited about. Of course I hope he pans out to be a great player if he does sign with UGA though. :-)

This Bowman kid thinks that UGA should offer him without him having the grades. He said he wasnt going to wait on UGA so he committed to bama without the grades. That is real good. Does he think he can get into even Bama without the grades? Then again that is Bama so maybe he can.

So…nobody had offered up until October of his senior year (late).

UGA offers a full ride and everyone is all excited. His life has changed.

fla hears that UGA has offered so they make a call.

Now, the young man is waiting to “see how everything is going to play out”. Not, I am very thankful that UGA has offered and been with me all along while I work on my sub-par grades and test score. He wants to PLAY IT OUT??????

Gimme a break.

A “study” flow of well-wishers? You might want to turn off the spell checker and have a co-worker look over your work for you.

That’s whats up. Derrick has been a player since the 7th grade. Whoever gets him will get a great player. Recruiting services can’t rank heart. Coach Shane was the best thing to ever happen to North Cobb. Go Big Derrick!
