Jarvis Jones will make official visit to Southern Cal

Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones, considered the state’s No. 1 football prospect by numerous recruiting publications, will take his first official visit to Texas on Oct. 18 and is setting up another one to Southern Cal for November.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Jones is also considering offers from Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Miami. Jones has denied rumors that he is leaning toward Clemson, saying that all schools are “equal.”

“I like those [seven schools], but I don’t have any favorites out of them,” the tight-lipped Jones said last week. “I’m open to all of them.”

Carver coach Dell McGee said he is proud of the way his prized prospect is dealing with recruiting. “First of all, he’s a great young man. He hasn’t been cocky about all the attention. He is just taking it all in stride, and handling everything in a very mature manner.”

Jones made an unofficial visit to Georgia for the Alabama game. The Bulldogs already have three commitments at linebacker, but have told Jones they would hold a scholarship open for him.

Georgia is also scouting Northside-Warner Robins linebacker Eric Fields, who backed out of an early commitment to Clemson. Also, UGA showed up to watch Westside-Macon linebacker Julian Burnett at practice on Wednesday.

Come on Jarvis, represent your state. You will have a pretty good chance in starting @ lB as a freshmen like Rennie.

Jarvis, there’s just something about playing for your state school…it’ll stay with you a lifetime and people around you will remember you as a “damn good dawg”…they can use you right away at a school that’s always in the spotlight and always treats linebackers right…the NFL watches Georgia..and regardless of some detractors, you can get a good education there, too!
