Basketball: Derrick Favors, nation’s No. 1 prospect, trims list
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
South Atlanta’s Derrick Favors, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 basketball prospect by Scout, has started weeding out his finalists.
The 6-foot-9 Favors has eliminated Connecticut and now will decide among six schools, according to his high school coach.
“Connecticut, they are a very good school and we looked very hard at them,” South Atlanta’s Michael Reddick said. “However, we have to start narrowing down the schools, so they were taken off the list.”
Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Memphis, Georgia, Florida State and N.C. State remain on Favors’ list.
Favors has taken official visits to Tech and Georgia, and has not scheduled any more.

Put on for your city and go to Georgia State. Single-handedly build a program. They have another top rated player on the way, I am sure you could bring a couple others.

Hahahahahahahahaha. Let’s point the jokes out there.
“Felton’s dynasty in the making” - aka, “we won a couple games at the end of the season and got lucky”
“one of the best educations in the South” - last I checked, Georgia’s highly competitive business school is behind Georgia Tech’s management program… which is what most athletes study. So, Mr. Favors, if for some reason basketball doesn’t work out (which it seems as though it will), you will still have an education worth more than that of most people in the state of Georgia. I trust that you will make the smart decision. See you in the Thrillerdome next year!!!!

Wait! Go to UGA, be mired in mediocrity for four years and never get to the pros.Or else, go to Tech, be a part of something special & go pro after 1 or two years.

Hmmm go to GT where you could stay clostest to home play with 2 other mcdonald all americans in Lawal and Shumpert possibly 3 if we land Boynton and compete for a championship.
Or go to UGA where they are not relevant mid major players minus Thompkins and are going to be horrible for years to come.
Really a simple choice.

JasperJacket, Please don’t let poor old Yeller bother you. He is obviously a very insecure person, as he continually attempts to make himself feel better by saying harsh things about others (usually those that he feels most inferior to). I truly hope that this poor, insecure soul will at some point in time overcome his feeling of insignificance. Noone deserves to go through life with such low self esteem. It appears that he also has some homosexual tendancies with many of the references he makes to homosexuality. So just be kind and wish him the best as we should do for any fellow human.

I’m a diehard uga guy, but how about this….
Young man - go where you feel the most comfortable and supported. Go to the place where you feel like you can succeed in life, in case something doesn’t work out with your hoops career. Go to the place that you feel like will challenge you as a student, an athelete, and most importantly - a man.
Good luck… I like Dennis Felton alot and I HOPE you choose Georgia, but if not - good luck.

This game is all about runs and UGA is on the upside whereas GT is hard to figure still. They have few good years and then struggle.
Felton has had to tear down the mess Harrick left behind and along the way has had to cull some bad apples. I truly respect the guy for trying to make men out these boys. If folks don’t understand what he’s doing go rent Coach Carter.
Derrick you would be the cornerstone on the foundation that is there now. Let it be built around you and you’ll experience the joys of personal growth and brotherhood. Otherwise you’ll be a blip on the other schools radar.
Just my thoughts as a huge UGA fan.

Only in the eyes of the nerd herd fans…and there are not many of you!!! Mr. Favors go where your heart leads you…TRUST me..you do not have to go to GT to be discovered!!! To: Jasper jacket and all dawgs are butt lickers…if you would like to read vile, immature, and STUPID blogs go to any UGA blog from this past sun. or Mon. re: UGA-Bama game and read most of the GT bloggers….you will find that yellows comments are rather mundane and mild!!!!

Cool it guys, ‘cause everyone knows that ole yeller is not a real person. He was hired by the UGA athletic dept. to try to get under the skin of GT people.Sometimes he is successful. but he is just a pea-brain that actually is a UF grad, from their foul mouth school of ignorance. He supplements his income by trying the same tricks on UGA people and calls himself the Gator Dawg Sucker.

So called “BadDawg”, Why so angry? There probably are some Tech fans that are obnoxious on the UGA blog. I certainly do not agree with anyone who does not keep things in perspective and that includes UGA, Tech and any other fans who are out of control. In my opionion, it would be great if all blogs include only sane and rational inputs. Just try to ignore any idiot who cannot keep their inputs in line. The only way to give credence to an idiot’s input is to let it bother you. And, as a final note, I see a lot more of insane comments from UGA fans than I do Tech fans. But, they are all irrelevent, UGA and Tech idiots.

I think what the Tech fans are trying to say is that we play in a real conference and have a proud tradition in basketball. We’ve had a few mediocre years recently but with the recruits Hewitt’s bringing in things are starting to look up. Especially towards the end of last year. We return most everyone of importance and add Shumpert. So if Favors wants to play in state and for a winner he has a better chance of accomplishing that at Tech. Plus Dennis Felton is the scariest looking person I’ve ever seen in my life.

UGA fans were calling for Felton’s head. They were the worst team in the SEC. Then a hurricane hit Atlanta, games git moves and UGA beats 3 straight average teams and lands in the NCAA. I don’t call that building anything great. Favors is a virtual lock to GT, anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

You uga people are dilusional…
Top three liberal school in the south? What are you smoking? Let’s see: in state we have Emory University, then there is duke, unc (top 5 public in nation I belive), wake forest, Florida, UVA, vandy, George Washington, George town, tech’s management program is better…
You guys also have no idea how many final fours you have been to either. 1983 was your only one… We had fun in the final four twice, in 2004 and 91 I believe. And we have a program much more on the upside, with that top 5 or top recruiting class in the nation to meet a group of soon to be upper class men, or as we call them 3rd 4th 5th and 6th years…
You guys sound like what you try to make us out to be in football, except we haven’t missed a bowl game in over a decade…

Jamal and Drew So you have a fluke of a season when the SEC is down and all of a sudden your program is better?? HAHA…..
Ive been a hardcore Hoops junkie since around the late 80’s and remember watching GT on their final 4 run in 1990. Ive also cheered for the uga basketball team when there good…but lets face it…thats like cheering for the Cinn Bengals. They might be good once every 15 years.
UGA hoops hasent been any good since Jarvis Hayes was there…. but then again your uga hoops fans so you probably wouldnt know that, or that he now plays for the Wizards ( i cheer for the guy, and Gerald Wilkins son as well)
Gt has had Chris Bosh, Matt Harpring, Young, Critt, Jarrett Jack, Mark Price, John Salley, Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott, Brian Oliver, James Forrest, Stephon Marbury….ect…..
UGA has had?………….. Hershal Walker?? lol……
wait i forgot you once suckered my favorite NBA player ever Dominique Wilkins (Hawks are STILL Traitors for trading him) into coming to UGA from France…..just imagine what he could of done at a REAL program like GT! How many “Dawgs” fans can name all the places off the top of your head that Nique went to after being traded?? See your not true hoops fans…. you know as much about hoops as u know about womens gymnastics…… i cant argue with yall anymore….its like Arguing with Washington Nationals fans……

I thought the person who posted as Derrick Favors was pretty fun and probably right. He is not spending his time reading these posts, that is why he’s ranked #1. But, you can’t say “I don’t read the AJC blog comments” and then post a response. That would show that you do read them! Not a very smart post.
Also, it seems to be a very sad time when a #1 prospect has UGA and GT as two of their choices. I guess the only reason would be that they’re in state.

Jacketfan, while you may have a not so glowing look at the Cats, keep in mind that we don’t ever stay down for long. While we didnt’ have a stellar year last year, there is a lot of optimism going into Coach Gillispie’s 2nd year. You can bet that last year will not be an example of how we play through the year. We expect to be contenders, unlike Tech and Georgia, yet we know we have a lot of progress to make. But 7 National Titles provides a history of a program compared to very few. For any Georgia kid to leave this state for a basketball program should not be a surprise. It happens every year. Until Favors makes a visit or says UK is out, the optimism is there for him to consider Lexington, whether he stays 1 or 4 years.
Those who are suggesting him going to a school for a specific degree, you should know better by now. If he can leave as a lottery pick after Year 1, he is gone. No major even gets touched in Year 1. So it comes down to coaching, the school atmosphere, and who can make DF the best player he can become. I like our chances any time we are mentioned as a finalist. Thats how we think as Cat fans!

Let me speak, since I grew up in Atlanta. The AJC is staffed by UGA Alumni, so all I knew ever heard was UGA this, UGA that, in terms of sports. So, I rooted for them. But, I went to Georgia Tech. But, don’t get it confused; I still enjoy both teams, but my heart is with GT. I say all this because I luagh at people who compare the two schools. UGA is nowhere close to GT in academics. Even my UGA Alumni friends admit that. GT Football is nowhere close to UGA. In basketball, Felton is a straight moron (as was Gailey in football). Neither of them could control their players off the field. I know its hard, but the players have to confide in their coaches and be able to approach them. So, Mr. Favors, GT will offer the better basketball and education. Even if you don’t stay 4 years, you will always be known to go to GT!
