How It Went: Mettenberger believes UGA loss won’t effect recruiting

Oconee County quarterback and Georgia commit Zach Mettenberger was delighted to see Sanford Stadium rocking Saturday night prior to the Dogs’ 41-30 loss to Alabama.
“Even though we lost, it was still an awesome experience,” said Mettenberger, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 selection.
Mettenberger spent several hours prior to Saturday night’s kickoff hanging out with Georgia commits Chase Vasser, a linebacker from Chestatee, and quarterback Aaron Murray of Tampa Fla. Murray was accompanied to Athens by teammate Orson Charles.
Charles, who is uncommitted, is considered one of the premier tight ends in the nation.
“I had met Orson before, but I had a chance to say hello to him on Saturday,” Mettenberger said.
Mettenberger believes Georgia’s lackluster performance against Alabama won’t have a negative impact on recruiting.
“That was just the game of football. You can’t expect to be perfect every time,” he said. “I don’t think any [recruit’s] opinion of Georgia changed.”

Hey a loss is a loss.. Lose by 1 or 11 or 21.. UGA made adjustments, albiet, after a first half “blackout” and made a game of it.. It’s how a team handles adversity that I believe a potential recruit should study.
I hope Orson realizes that he has a chance to step in & play next season!!
We sure can use him…

…”….won’t effect recruiting”…??
How about “affect”, instead.
Unbelievable.

Pretty obvious that we need to be loading up on OL and DL, not taking multiple QB’s in one class.
Saturday we were still paying the sins of Neil Calloway. We cannot let him continue to haunt us by not taking more beef every year.

It perfectly visible that you know nothing about football. Bamas OL and DL are vets. UGAs OL and DL are Freshmen and sophmores. Great observation though We have 3 big OL recruits in this class and several big Dline commits in 2 years we will have Logan Gray at qb, we will also lose Momass, Goodman, Harris, Durham, Asher Allen, Miller, Evans and Brown. Hey what do I know lets go get 4 and 5 deep at oline and dline we dont need Qbs, wrs or cbs.

I’m already thinking about next year. IF we can keep Stafford, our only key losses will have been Southerland, Massaquoi, and Ellerbe.

If the only comment you can come up with is a spelling error, stay off the blog. These things are created for your enjoyment, not to show you got past the 4th grade in school.

All I can say to all the critics from other schools in the SEC is at least Georgia plays games that have national implications with national exposure!

You’d think a writer for a major newspaper would know the proper use of “affect” and “effect”.

BullDawg Rick- Great point, the fact that the team and the fans didn’t quit had to be just as impressive to the recruits as it would have been had we won.
J.R. & Tom - Couldn’t agree with you both more. A professional journalist who doesn’t know how to use proper grammar or spell check, is like a ditch digger who doesn’t know how to shovel dirt. Take some pride in your craft!

It would be silly for any recruit to base their decision on any ONE game.

To Joe, you have no clue as to what you’re talking about. I think the coaching staff has a just a little bit of a better idea of what they’re doing than you. We have plenty of linemen in the mix for this year and especially next year.
