How It Went: Henry County’s Jamal Patterson surprise visitor at Georgia

One of the surprise guests on Georgia recruiting tickets for Alabama was Henry County wide receiver Jamal Patterson, who has committed to Stanford.

The Bulldogs appear to be taking another close look at Patterson, who is a lifelong Georgia fan. He was offered by about every big-time program except for the Bulldogs, picking The Cardinal among nearly 50 offers.

Georgia wide receivers coach John Eason observed Patterson catching five passes for 125 yards in Henry County’s win over Decatur on Sept. 5. Eason was at the game to scout Patterson’s teammate, MarKeith Ambles, who is one of the state’s top junior wide receivers.

Patterson, who is an AJC Super 11 selection, said Eason mailed an invitation to the Alabama game but has otherwise not had any contact with Georgia.

“I had a great time at the game, Georgia has a big-time program,” said Patterson, who added he was still solid with his Stanford commitment.

Would Patterson consider the Bulldogs if they offered? “I don’t have an offer from Georgia, therefore I couldn’t really answer that question because it would be false hope.”

There’s always some idiot who logs on to message boards and talks trash about outstanding players.

UGA invited the kid to the game — they evidently think he’s a fine player.

Where were you invited? You were probably the last player picked on your junior high kickball team on the playground.

I’m sure any AJC super 11 pick has plenty of options of where to go to school. Good grades, talent, etc. But why on earth are the parents of these kids allowing them to COMMIT to a school and treat their word like it doesn’t mean something. Several of the colleges recruting these kids over commit their classes. They share this problem.

UGA message board guys always feel the need to trash talk a 18 yr…The lack of class never ceases to amaze me. Even after they get their tails beat on national TV, they log on here to talk trash.

Imagine having to settle for a full ride scholarship to Stanford. Obviously Patterson is an outstanding student and athlete. I wish him all the best in sunny California.

Do not associate the trashtalkers on this blog with the Georgia football team..yes, the team got beaten but that has nothing to do with the small minds and big mouths that inhabit this and other blogs. Those are hardworking, fine student athletes on the Dawg team and these bloggers are like flear/parasites that attach themselves until they can be exterminated or drop off!!
