Basketball: Derrick Favors, nation’s No. 1 prospect, returns from Tech visit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
South Atlanta’s Derrick Favors, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect by Scout, had a “good time” on his official visit this past weekend to Georgia Tech.
“We didn’t get the chance to talk about it for a long time at school on Monday, but Derrick said it went well at Georgia Tech,” South Atlanta coach Michael Reddick said.
Tech assistant Charlton Young also followed up with a call to Reddick on Monday, to say thanks for the consideration. Favors arrived on Tech’s campus on Friday morning and left on Sunday morning. Last week, Reddick explained Tech’s appeal to Favors.
“Georgia Tech, of course, is right here in the city, and that’s always a great thing. It would allow people around here, such as his family and his friends, the opportunity to see him play in person. And Georgia Tech has a great tradition of putting players in the NBA on a regular basis …”
The 6-foot-9 Favors has now made two official visits, to both Tech and Georgia. He is eligible to take three more recruiting trips, and will decide on those among his other finalists of Florida State, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Memphis and Connecticut.

Derrick, Tech has lost it! They have been on the way down for the past few years now, and Hewitt may not be the coach everyone thought he was. Dennis Felton has a program that is on the way UP, and someone like you could make the difference in an excellent class becoming a GREAT class. Felton runs a strict program, and has put the Dawgs in a position to compete for the final four. He has weeded out those who had other desires than playing to be champions. Last but not least, the Dawg nation will always recognize your efforts and after your career in the NBA you will have a following like Tech just dreams about. Athens is not that far away, you know. Show your intelligent analysis concerning the two in-state programs, and choose to be someone you will always be proud of being - a DAWG!!!

Are you kidding me, Georgia is on their way up??
felton can’t even keep a team without having to boot their top players off due to off court problems. They did TERRIBLE last year. They made the tournament by pure luck—running the tables in the SEC and getting the automatic bid.
They were like the LOWEST seeded major conference team EVER to make the tournament. Not something to be proud of.
Do yourself a Favor—Come to Tech

dawgslookingup,
UGA’s run at the end of the year was the equivalent of the Colorado Rockies’ finish to their ‘07 season. The only difference was the Rockies made the World Series and didn’t lose in the first round of the playoffs.
Don’t confuse UGA with a contender because of a well-timed hot streak.

Derrick,
Tech has a great program (both past and present) in a highly respected conference, coach Hewitt is a fantastic teacher with an outstanding staff, and Tech will give you a great education while staying close to your family. We would love to have them in the stands and watch you on the court!
GO JACKETS!!

Hey mark, remind me again, did Tech make the NCAA? Just checking, I thought I had missed something. Oh yeah, didn’t UGA WIN ON TECH’s court for the opportunity to go to the Dance. Another Check. And with all that talent and great coaching and umlimited potential, remind me when you beat UGA last? OK, thanks, have a great day!!

Cioach Rob,
Derrick is set for life going to TECH: incredible academic reputation, a top-rated basketball conference, a history of fine student athletes AND graduates who went to the NBA.
He’d be a FOOL to matriculate to “Diplomalessville” (Ugag)!

Just remember Derrick there were no UGA fans calling you a FOOL. That’s what Tech fans will do to you. GIve you all the glitz and glamor when you are watching, and the moment you are gone…..forgotten.

UGA on the way up? Didnt you lose several players including leading scorer and starters off a team that finished under .500? Yeah, if by on the way up you mean on the way down.

Derrick come to Tobacco Road where basketball is King!!! Help NC State beat up on Carolina and Duke. GT and UGA don’t hold a candle to how passionate the Wolfpack are about basketball. Come to NC State where you will be treated right.

Come to Georgia Tech Derrick and play in a real conf…..the ACC

Typical dawg - reading “he’d be a FOOL to go to UGA” as calling someone a fool. Last I checked, he hasn’t chosen UGA. Hence, no one is calling him a fool. See, reading comprehension is just another thing you won’t get at UGA.
And while UGA fans might not have said he’d be a fool to go to Tech, the one thing they will do is boo their athletes when they disappoint them (case in point - most recent UGA-UA game - but there have been many others before them). Talk about fan support (or would that be the 7823 fans/game number vs. 9191 for Tech).
Regardless, best of luck to Derrick wherever he chooses to play. Hopefully, it will be at Tech.

Georgia on the way up? Only way THUGA U is going up is up the river..Why do all the DUMBA$$ THUGA fans lie..Sure go to THUGA U and yes you will have a following for the rest of your life..the men in blue with the flashing lights on top of thier cars will always be there to follow you waiting on you to do what all THUGS do. Just ask Danny Ware..Arrested drunk in the middle of the street at 2:00AM they should have arrested the entire team for being drunk at 7:30PM Saturday night..Blackout Tradition is over..New Tradition to be started..PINKS ALL OUT..CMR says that if they play like PU$$Y’s then they should dress like them.. Back to the subject at hand..Mr. Favors the choice is simple. Do you want to play for a team in Tech that has a proven record of players moving on from the program to the NBA, do you want to play in the premier conference in college basketball, do you want to play against the best game after game all the while improving your own game. Or do you want to go to a program like THUGA U where they put like 1 player a decade in the NBA, a program with a proven track record of being behind bars as much as on the court, a program whose biggest fan section is made up of Clarke Counties Finest, play in a conference that is on average about as good as the WAC and game after game you play against lesser opponents who probably couldn’t have started on your highschool team and before you know it your game has deteriorated to thier level? Make the smart choice, the right choice THWG the only choice. BECOME A JACKET

CPH gets one more chance. The guys he has recruted will probably only be there 1-2 years and he will be back where he started from. I am a Tech fan but am getting tired of excuses. WIN OR MOVE ON.

Hahahahaha….right.
Come to the ACC, where we live and breathe basketball, don’t have a reputation of thugs, criminals, and corruption, and provide an atmosphere for our players to succeed.

Mr. Favors,
If your desire to play one year and get drafted into the NBA, then GT is the right place for you. First of all we have a proven track record for this and CPH has proven he will do the right thing by his players even if it is not good for the program. I think the multi-million dollar contract awaiting you in about 10 months is worth foregoing college for. Hell, even Bill Gates dropped out for millions , well it turned out billions of dollars. I look forward to seeing you play live, but best of luck no matter what your choice…

Hey Ernie — you are obviously a tad confused or your blind enthusiasm for GT has made you devoid of understanding. GT basketball players don’t graduate and go to the NBA, they leave early and without degrees. Don’t’believe me? Check the NCAA graduation rates for GT basketball players. GT grad rates are the lowest in the ACC, it’s a FACT, pitiful Ernie. Sort of debunks that student/athlete thing over on North Ave. The basketball program has become an Athlete program first and foremost, class is optional, or at least it was for Stephon Marbury and Javaris Crittendon. About that ‘great world class education’ you would know that because why? You are a GT grad, or you’ve been drinking that Gold and White Kool-Aid that Furman Bisher sells?

Captain,
I guess the fact that CPH trains up these kids within 1 year itself, so that NBA teams want to draft them in the first round itself is a bad thing?
Paul Hewitt is a great coach and Favors could learn a lot, and do very well under his tutelage.

As much as we’d love to think he’s staying in state, it’s hard to compete with playing basketball on Tobacco Road up at NC State. Sidney Lowe is turning that program around and has already shown great success in recruiting players from this area.

dont go to Tech. Come to Athens, and restore our program. We party way harder than those losers do. and you would probably leave after a year anyways, so say that you can enjoy four college experience, not waste it at tech….
