UGA’s biggest recruiting weekend of the season
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
There may be more talented football players in the stands than on the field Saturday when Georgia plays host to Alabama.
Several of the nation’s top high school recruits are scheduled to attend, including Georgia’s highest-profile commitment for its 2009 recruiting class, quarterback Aaron Murray of Tampa.
About 10 of Georgia’s 14 commitments are expected to be in Athens, including Emanuel County Institute tailback Washaun Ealey and Troup offensive lineman Chris Burnette.
The rest of the recruiting entourage likely will consist of some of the nation’s top uncommitted players, including Washington High cornerback Branden Smith and Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones, who are ranked as the state’s No. 1 or 2 overall prospects by every recruiting publication.
Northside-Warner Robins defensive tackle Abry Jones, who committed to Georgia, said he will bring his teammate, linebacker Eric Fields, who recently backed off his commitment to Clemson in order to consider the Bulldogs.
Perhaps the most important guest will be wide receiver Marlon Brown of Memphis, who selected Georgia this weekend as the first of his five official visits. The 6-foot-5 Brown, who has denied rumors he is leaning toward Tennessee, also is considering the Volunteers, Florida, LSU, and Ohio State.
Question to our audience: Which uncommitted prospects visiting this weekend do you think Georgia has the shot at? And do you think any of them will commit on Saturday?

It seems like the best Georgia High School recruit, Jonathan Davis, is being left out. After watching that small rb from Oregon State tonight, perhaps UGA recruiting gurus will rethink the size issue alltogether. If I were trying to sign the very best class, Jonathan Davis would definitely be included.

I have a good feeling about Branden Smith. I don’t see him or any of the recruits committing this weekend though. Also, Marlon Brown’s eyes may be opened a little brighter towards UGa if A.J. Green has a big night. I’m sure Brown could easily envision himself catching passes in that great atmosphere between the hedges.

Gak- It’s not about his size (i.e. Rennie Curran). There is no doubt that he has the talent. They only have 6 more spots to fill, and they can’t take a “chance” with a guy who probably will not qualify (i.e. Michael Bowman).

hey bama 22..the answer to your question—-zero. Why would anyone attend college in the third world (Tuscaloosa)when they could go to school in Athens?(or anywhere else?) You bama people need to realize that no one wants to come to your outdated, little backasswards state..except maybe to pass thru on the way from Atlanta to Destin. Maybe you should just concentrate on beating Auburn for once and not waste time fantasizing about Tide beating Ga.

Saban breaks a lot of hearts every year. He accepts 40 or so commits and signs the limit ( about 24 or so) then he leaves the rest to scramble. He and urban Crier cut from the same cloth. Ask the Dolphins. He’s scum.

I see maybe 2 of the uncommitted getting on board this weekend. If that happens the final few spots should be snapped up quick. I really like the kid from Warner Robins.

I’d don’t know who will give their verbal after the game, but I do know who our number one target should be… Marlon Brown. A great corner would also be nice, so if Branden Smith fills that bill I hope he’s impressed enough to say yes to UGA.
PS - Nick Saban is estraged from the truth. Don’t believe me past on the Miami press conferences, then check out Richt’s blog and you’ll get further evidence.

I hear all everything athlete Donovan Tate will attend the game this weekend. With his return to football for his high school, GA has to be one of the schools he is considering along with USC and Florida. After the debacle last night with the Trojans; hopefully, he will adjust his preference and the Dawgs will go to the top of his list.

UGASlobber…..I dont know. Maybe you will have to go ask guys from last years #1 class. Or you can maybe try to find a current recruit from what is now a top 10 rates class for 09. But you are right. Tuscaloosa is not at all a college town, our facilities suck and we have a coach who has actually been able to win a National Championship! What are these kids thinking?????

JB….I am curious is you have ANY proof to back up the nonsense you just posted about Coach Saban? Which of last years recruits from last years class were “left to scramble”? I can account for every single recruit and am happy to give that information to you, but I would not want to let facts get in the way of your attempt at a lame insult. As for the scum comment, the endzone celebration ordered by Richt last year was the biggest low rent, desperate, scumbag move I have ever seen. Especially from a guy who you guys claim to be the 2nd coming of God. My advise….Look in your own back yard before calling someone else scum!

Branden Smith or Jarvis Jones

We need defense help! Branden and Jarvis should be priority, but the thought of Marlon Brown alongside A J Green next year excites me. Georgia will be loaded next year and the even younger guys that are red shirted now will be ready to produce. The offense is going to be great even if Stafford and Moreno leave. I think Joe Cox can run this offense just as effective and Caleb King and Samuels will be more experience along with Dontavious and Washuan ready to get their turn. We are already loaded with recievers ready to get their turn T. King, K Durham, AJ. STurdivant returns to an offensive line that returns everyone. Georgia will win a nation title next year, with an undefeated record. This year the schedule is too tough especially with key lines injuries on both side of the ball. We need to focus on defense with the rest of our scholarship spots.

We need D line help, so not sure which recruit fills that bill but he / they should be primary concern. Our O-line will be fine, but we have no pass rush for our DE’s. Need someone in the mold of C.Johnson, D.Pollack, C.Grant etc.. or someone to finally step up.

We have Houston stepping up and we have Toby Jackson and Cornelius Washington. Vasser may also move to DE and we have Longo.

Ever watch teams man cover Randy Moss?? You will Sat eve, AJ and MoMass have field day stats when Bama trys to stuff Moreno, the last gambling Sabin D to come to Athens was blown out and no Aj`s were on that field. If there were it would have been alot worse than 45 points put up. Funerals follow with Wakes, which is the Celtic version of an afterparty. Athens will roar Sat night Bama has some talent but this aint Tulane!! Bye Bye Bama

If I hear about Bammer’s #1 recruiting class from last year 1 more time I’m going to snatch out my last hair. You signed 32 recruits for God’s Sake! Of course you were rated #1 based on the weight of the class. A third of the class is marginal at best (2 and 3 star). As far as the average ranking Georgia, Florida, and LSU had just as good if not better class.
Bammer recruits must have a hard time staying in school or you wouldn’t have 32 scholarships open.
I’d like to see the DAWGS get commitments from some if not all of this group: Branden Smith, Jarvis Jones, Marlon Brown and Darren Myles.

I think it will be Fields because he has seen a number of linebackers come thru Athens and get a shot at playin right away, so I think that can sway a young player into making a decision. Also the young receiver/cornerback out of Atlanta might get the urge because UGA is hot because of all the pub lately. Hopefully one of these young men will see the light and realize that UGA is where it is these days and will be for sometime now and get on board with this impressive program. Holla at a playa later.

Jamal, He has already qualified. Not that most items posted on these blogs are true or even accurate, but it has been posted that he already has made a qualifying score to make it to Athens. It is possible that this is not true, but not likely. There have been no posted reliable, fact-based contradictions or plausible heated denials that this is so. It is highly unlikely that either GT or South Carolina would offer him if these were legitimate issues. Just last year Steve Spurrier had a confrontation with their admissions office over this matter of qualifying as Coach Spurrier noted that some of his recruits were being denied entrance into South Carolina even after they had already been cleard through the NCAA clearinghouse. He told South Carolina that they could not treat recruits in such a manner. He was correct. The South Carolina admissions office relented. He signed the players in question. If you have documented proof that either South Carolina of GT have less difficult admissions standards than UGA, please offer it in this blog. I have no factual basis for believing otherwise. UGA does have a limited number of spots and they don’t want JD because they want Jones or possibly Fields. However…..JD is the best football player in the state, period. Personally, I would be far more enthused with UGA signing him than with any other recruit, because I believe he is that good and the Knowshown Moreno attitude that he brings to the playing field is beyond all his extremely significant physical skills….and they are significant. The qualifying issues and character issues probably don’t exist, but the reality of what I stated probably does. Jonathan Davis would, without a doubt, improve the overall talent of UGA’s football team. He would make an ideal signee and not signing him would be a very regrettable ommission. I do hope we get Jones,Smith,Brown,Massie, and Davis and one more really significant player. UGA has a really good chance of being just as talented next year and in the forseeable future.

Jamal, UGA signed Justin Anderson and Toby Jackson even thought they did not qualify. They went to prep school and then to Athens. They were wanted and they were that good. Bobbie Massie also was a player and was signed last year by a school who thought he was …that good. It so happens that since he has been to prep school, he now has changed his mind regarding the school that he originally committed to. He may well end up at UGA. We shall see.

Gak- go to Rivals.com and Scout.com. Go to Davis’s profile. Read what his coach says and what the player says. Then, you will have your facts. Please don’t go by what “bloggers” post. That info is coming straight from his coach.

1eyedJack….a little education for you. Yes BAMA signed 32. I guess you are not aware that Rivals recruiting ranking take into account you highest 22 ranked recruits to come out with their ranking. They dont taket he entire class!! Good lord….learn something before you try to make an arguement. The point of mentioning the class was to counter one of your fellow UGA morons comments about no players wanting to go to UA!! Of those 32, 2 enrolled in January counting towards last year. 2 went to play pro baseball. 3 did not qualify. Sorry to bring facts into your insults.

Elefant Ears…You are right. UGA is no Tulane. But, BAMA is no South Carolina!! Also, we have a better defensive backfield than ASU so I would not be so confident about Green or Mass getting that much action. On the other hand, BAMA has several solid receives and UGA’s DB’s are suspect, especially Evans. Who ever lines up on Evans will have a big game for the Tide!

Jamal-
Jonathan Davis will qualify. GT has officially offered him, and GT only gives official offers to players who meet their enterance standards. Yes, there WAS some question on his qualifying, but he has turned things around in the classroom and this won’t be an issue. So if he can get into GT with their tougher requirements, then academics have nothing to do with why UGA isn’t after him. I think he’s all but committed to GT anyway, just needs to take visits to be sure and will go there unless someone blows him and his family away.

Secis you moron! You dumb@@@’s can’t let go of CMR endzone celebration. It was a brilliant tactic to get the dawgs over a hurdle they could jump in the past and they took a penalty for it so let it rest. The worthless belly crawlers were a joke after that andd nothing to fear. Just a tactic idiot not a sin you pathetic loser. Bulldog Nation Rules!

Dear Bloggers,
Please keep the personal insults out of this as it is supposed to be recruiting.
As for our needs it would be nice to get that big TE Charles to go along with QB Aaron Murray, also we need to get two more offensive and defensive linemen in this class. I believe we have filled our needs at the other positions so any of these guys would be gravy so to speak.

It was close until the bus driver opened the door…just take your medicine and move to the back of the bus…that is the reason they play the game…however you need to remember you are never as good as you think you are nor are you quite as bad as you think….
