Georgia Tech may be after SW DeKalb duo

Southwest DeKalb teammates Jacoby Mitchell and Michael Johnson attended Georgia Tech’s game against Mississippi State on Saturday.

The invitation came on Friday, when Tech linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary watched Southwest beat Lakeside.

Both players said the visit was unexpected.

“That was the first time I’ve talked to them,” said Mitchell, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver who had two catches for 50 yards and touchdown against Lakeside.

“They just kind of showed up. It was a big surprise,” said Johnson, a 6-2, 220 running back. “Hopefully, it will turn out to be something good.”

Johnson, who has had offers from Akron and Eastern Michigan, had a short conversation Friday with Jean-Mary.

“He said he was looking for a complete back,” Johnson said. “I’m glad he talked to me instead of maybe someone else.”

Johnson, who also has had recent contacts with Florida, has scored five touchdowns and has 300 yards rushing and receiving.

Mitchell has been offered by Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Akron, Miami of Ohio, Middle Tennessee and Western Carolina, and says while it was nice to draw interest from Tech, his college wish is to go out of state.
