Is Jefferson’s Crenshaw about to de-commit from Georgia Tech?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

South Carolina already lured away one of Georgia Tech’s top commitments this year; are the Gamecocks about to swipe another one?
Jefferson County defensive end Chris Crenshaw told the AJC on Sunday night that he is sticking by his commitment to Tech. He made an unofficial visit to watch Tech defeat Mississippi State on Saturday.
“Tech gave me an offer and [South Carolina] didn’t,” Crenshaw said. “So I’m a Jacket and not a Gamecock.”
Crenshaw created a firestorm of recruiting rumors this past week after he traveled to South Carolina to watch the Georgia game. Crenshaw later told GoGamecocks.com, “I woulld really, really love to get an offer from South Carolina. They are my number one …”
“Their defense was amazing. I would love to be a part of that defense. Their linebackers are aggressive. They attack.”
Crenshaw also told the website that South Carolina assistant John Hunt requested three game tapes for scholarship evaluation, and that he wants to set an official visit with the Gamecocks.
On Sunday, Crenshaw downplayed last week’s comments about South Carolina, saying, “I love Tech and I’m very happy to be committed to Tech.”
Earlier this summer, Appalachee linebacker Chaun Gresham switched his commitment from Tech to South Carolina. Gresham is the nephew of the most famous player in South Carolina history, 1980 Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers, but said that it had no impact on his decision.

Milton’s Williams marvels at Tennessee
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Milton running back Toney Williams said the spectacle of seeing Tennessee play at a packed Neyland Stadium on Saturday was more overwhelming than the Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech and Arkansas-Auburn showdowns he’d attended earlier in the season.
“The score didn’t work out the way I wanted, but the whole environment was amazing,” said Williams, who watched Florida dismantle Tennessee. “I’ve never seen a place where people are so into their team. Even though they didn’t win, it made me proud of my choice.”
Williams, who has committed to UT, rushed for 250 yards and four touchdowns in Friday’s 42-13 victory against Alpharetta, giving him 916 yards and 15 touchdowns after four games. But Williams, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150 list and ranked 49th in Georgia by Rivals.com, was frustrated he couldn’t help his Vols.
“I wish I could have gone out there, especially when they got down there on the goal line,” Williams said. “If they’d have scored, it’d have been a whole different ballgame.”

Tucker’s Davis visits Georgia Tech, meets FCA director
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Tucker High’s Jonathan Davis, who was offered by Georgia Tech last week, attended Tech’s game against Mississippi State Saturday. He saw the Jackets win 38-7.
The biggest impression he came away with was meeting Tech campus director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, “a very cool guy,” according to Davis.
Davis, who attends New Mercies Baptist Church in Liburn with his family, said his faith has been an important part in his upbringing, and will be in college, too.
Faith likely will be one of the factors when he makes his decision of where to play in college.
The 5-foot-8, 205-pound running back/linebacker has been offered by Tech, Boston College, South Carolina, Central Florida, UAB, Louisville and Middle Tennessee.

“I’m pretty much set on Vanderbilt,” Southerland said. “I haven’t been up [to Vanderbilt] lately. [The last time was] the second week in July, a week after I committed.”

How It Went: Lopsided loss doesn’t spoil Amble’s visit to Knoxville
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Henry County’s Markeith Ambles was among the group who exited Neyland Stadium during the fourth quarter of Tennessee’s 30-6 loss to Florida on Saturday.
Aside from witnessing a Gators romp, the junior receiver liked what he saw in Knoxville during the weekend.
“It was awesome and real loud,” said Ambles, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 choice. “They’ve got a lot of new facilities there.
“[Despite the loss], it was still a nice experience.”
Ambles has scholarship offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
He plans to attend Saturday night’s Alabama-Georgia game in Athens.

Georgia Tech may be after SW DeKalb duo
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Southwest DeKalb teammates Jacoby Mitchell and Michael Johnson attended Georgia Tech’s game against Mississippi State on Saturday.
The invitation came on Friday, when Tech linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary watched Southwest beat Lakeside.
Both players said the visit was unexpected.
“That was the first time I’ve talked to them,” said Mitchell, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver who had two catches for 50 yards and touchdown against Lakeside.
“They just kind of showed up. It was a big surprise,” said Johnson, a 6-2, 220 running back. “Hopefully, it will turn out to be something good.”
Johnson, who has had offers from Akron and Eastern Michigan, had a short conversation Friday with Jean-Mary.
“He said he was looking for a complete back,” Johnson said. “I’m glad he talked to me instead of maybe someone else.”
Johnson, who also has had recent contacts with Florida, has scored five touchdowns and has 300 yards rushing and receiving.
Mitchell has been offered by Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Akron, Miami of Ohio, Middle Tennessee and Western Carolina, and says while it was nice to draw interest from Tech, his college wish is to go out of state.

Newnan offensive lineman Raymond Beno, who committed to Georgia Tech in July, was among the recruits in attendance during the Jackets’ 38-7 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
“It went really well,” said Beno, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150. “It was fun. I talked to the coaches and talked to the other commits.
“I was happy to see a big win against an SEC team.”
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Beno chose the Jackets over scholarship offers from Miami and Wake Forest.

North Cobb’s Lott not a ‘lock’ for UGA
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
North Cobb defensive tackle Derrick Lott said if Georgia offers later this season, it is no certainty that he will commit to the Bulldogs.
Lott said Georgia promised an offer if improves his grades enough to meet college entrance requirements. Lott won over the Bulldogs with his performance at last summer’s prospect camp.
“If Georgia offered, it would be equal to the other schools that have offered,” Lott said. “I don’t really have a top two or top five. I’m open until I make my commitment.”
Lott, however, may have more interest in the Bulldogs that he is letting on. He attended Georgia’s season-opener against Georgia Southern, and has plans to return to Athens for other games.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Lott already has offers from South Carolina, Louisville, Michigan State, Central Florida, and Ole Miss.
