Alabama intensifies efforts to sway Auburn recruit, Douglass LB Atchinson
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
It’s an all-out recruiting war between Auburn and Alabama for Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchinson.
Atchinson narrowly committed to Auburn over Alabama, but the Crimson Tide has not given up. In fact, Alabama has intensified efforts to lure Atchinson away from its archrival.
Alabama assistant Lance Thompson showed up at Douglass last Friday to meet with Douglass coaches, and hung around to observe Atchinson for the team’s win over Washington.
“Coach Thompson just wanted me to know that they really want me, and that they are not giving up on me,” Atchinson said. “I’m listening to Alabama, but I’m still committed to Auburn.”
Does it bother Atchinson that Alabama is not taking “no” for an answer? “No, not really. It’s a blessing to have all these schools come at me like this. Alabama knows how I feel about Auburn, and I can’t do anything about it [when colleges contact me]. It is what it is.”
Atchinson said he has not attended any Alabama games, but might go to one in the near future because some of his family members like the Crimson Tide.

Umm…SweetHomeAlabama, you make alabama look retarted. I know you never went to Bama as you can’t spell SOURCE, REALIZE, improper use of there…should be their, and now should be know. So why don’t you go back to community college and continue to make Bama fans look stupid. Your post also makes no sense where you said “If Auburn had a brain…” Don’t post if you are retarted please

Dear Jonathan: If you would like to lose your last regular season game every year, you may want to switch your commitment and go to Alabama. If, however, you’d like to be on the winning team in the annual Iron Bowl, you’ll want to stay with Auburn.
FACTS: Auburn has won 6 in a row, 7 of the last 8 and has never lost in Tuscaloosa. Tommy Tuberville has been at Auburn for 10 seasons now and isn’t going anywhere soon. Nick Saban changes jobs with the same frequency that he changes socks. And Alabama changes coaches at the same rate. If you want continuity, stay with Auburn.
If you want to spend time with known felons - try Tuscaloosa. Alabama won the coveted Fulmer Cup this year, for having the most off-the-field legal issues this year. Auburn believes in discipline.
These are the facts. Think, pray and choose wisely. In other words - I look forward to welcoming you to the Loveliest Village on the Plains next year!
Signed, The Auburn Family

If I could not attend UGA, I would definately pick Bama. You guys need to wake up and smell the coffee, both programs are headed in different directions. Bama on their way back and Auburn returning to the wannabees. Actually you pig farmers never really got out of the wannabees category!

Fax….So, when you team sucks and you offense is the biggest joke in college football, resort to the IB record and comments about Nick Saban leaving. As athens DAWG said, it is not hard to see the directions each of our programs are going? Saban is recruiting top level talent and has several AU commits looking at the Tide now. Tuberville, when he is not out looking for a new job, is basically taking a commitment from whoever will give him one. Out of desperation in recruiting Tubs got desperate and thought that hiring Franklin and implementing a spread offense would help but we can see based on your commitment list, that has not happened. We can also see that AU’s offense is a complete and utter disaster. I was at the AU-MSU game last week and it was almost comical. What is even better is the fact that AU fans we blowing up Cody Burns to be the next Vince Carter and he didnt even get in a game where Todd was embarrassingly bad! You can quote facts all you want but here are some more for you. Your team won 3-2 over a terrible Miss State team. Your running backs cannot hold onto the ball (au has had almost 10 turnovers in 3 games). Your QB has a dead arm and your coach has ZERO confidence in the backup QB. And Finally, your offense is the laughing stock of the SEC. Saturday is going to be a long day for Auburn.

Listen guys, I graduated from Lassiter High School over in Marietta, GA in 2000. I have been watching Auburn football for a long time and i can honestly say that they “stink”.
I actually have an award to give out. Its called the “stink award” and it goes to a 2nd tier team in the state of alabama called the Auburn Tigers (or war eagles) or whatever they decide to call themselves
Alabama Crimson Tide is a real program 12 National Titles
Georgia Bulldogs are better than Auburn Tigers (Auburn just received the “U stink award”)

DEAR FAX, You are a complete fool. You know your team sux (Auburn) when you start talkin about how Alabama has so many felons and arrests in the offseason…… All we have to say is 12 National Championships big guy!!!
so go ahead and respond with how long ago we won. Well, Alabama’s last national title was in 1992 and Auburns is ?????
Also by the looks of things our next title is coming alot sooner than yours. (great win last week, 3-2) college baseball is over but you guys didnt get the memo out in cow pasture land (great campus by the way)
Auburn is a big JOke. No wonder this kid is looking at a real collegiate program…..

Alabama is back on top with wins over an overrated Clemson team that AU beat also,Tulane, and Western Kentucky.Maybe we should just give you the SEC championship now.Get by Ark. and UGA and then you may have room to talk.

Dog and Bama fans above. I would assume that you have not been/spent any time in Auburn. I have spent a lot of time in Athens and Tuscaloosa and have found there is really no real difference in the 3 schools so just try to play nice. For Auburn to “stink” JSC: They have fair records against Richt and Saban (3-4 and 4-2) respectively) They are also 9 for 12 against top 10 oppenents. Maybe you stink. I live in the Lassiter District (graduated from Walton) and have seen your team there. They do stink. AU stunk in 2003 and went undefeated in 2004, maybe you were drunk those 2 years.

WDEnATL…i have been to AU many times. Nice campus and generally a nice town. Have many AU friends. That doesnt change the fact that your football team is AUful! You can pound your chest about AU’d record and I dont blame you. AU has been a good team for several years now. However, with the way you guys are recruiting and that ridiculous gimmick offense that Tubs brought in, you guys are going in the wrong directions and it is not only BAMA fans noticing this.
SouthGaTiger…We slapped Clemson around and they are still a top 25 team. You guys beat ULM soundly but had no passing game. You guys struggled with USM with turnovers. Lots of yards, not as many points. Against MSU, you guys were a complete disaster! It was like watching 2 teams trying to prove which has the worse offense. If BAMA beats Ark, no matter by how many points, we will hear from AU fans how bad Arkansas was. If we lose to UGA, we will hear from AU fans how we are so overrated (even though UGA is #3 in the nation). It is funny how so many recognize BAMA as a solid team and the only group of fans with a majority who dont believe that are AU fans. SHOCKING!

Here is the key difference between the two programs. When Auburn is in an up cycle, they win iron bowls, sprinkle a few SEC championships and end up ranked in the top 10. When Alabama is in its up years they win iron bowls, and sprinkle in a few National Championships. Auburn is a second tier program riding high. Alabama is a top tier program climbing out of a low. Consider this, if the last six iron bowls had been won by Alabama instead of Auburn, would Auburn be recruiting as well as Alabama is now?

Really Alabama? Yall are so good. You beat an overrated Clemson team, Tulane and Western Kentucky and now yall are back? Yall are ridiculous. I am sure half of you morons posting on here didn’t even go to school there anyway. Saban dida great job last year 6-6 and another loss in the Iron Bowl. Why dont you wait until you get in the SEC and see how you do?
Tuberville will be ready for Satan again and when we make it seven in a row, yall will come up with some lame excuse about how yall are headed in the right direction and it won’t be long before yall take over the state. Glad recruiting is going well for yall, but the only thing that matters is winning.
Jimmy Johns was a pretty highly rated recruit. He really turned out well, if you are looking for cocaine that is.
Secls… by the way it is “Kodi”, not Cody. Also I don’t know what rock you have been living under but it’s “Vince Young”, not Vince Carter. Are you really that stupid?

Either way, your IQ will drop several points if you attend one of those two schools.
As you can tell, Doug, their fans aren’t the brightest bulbs…

Alabama had the best recruiting class in the nation last year and the results of that are clearly evident. There has been a total turn around in attitude and level of performance of the players. The program is moving in the right direction since the arrival of Nick Saban, There is still room for improvement and it will come with time. As far is Auburn is concerned, it’s been a long time since 1957 and it doesn’t look promising for the future. Auburn will always be Auburn. Enough said. Roll Tide.
