UGA offers South Carolina defensive end

Sam Montgomery of Greenwood, S.C., who is ranked as the nation’s No. 3 weakside defensive end by Rivals, was offered by Georgia last week, according to the website.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Montgomery has around 40 scholarship offers. He is a member of the AJC’s The Super Southern 100.

What are Georgia’s chances of landing Montgomery? Montgomery said he had never been to Athens and didn’t really know any of the Georgia’s coaches. Yet Montgomery told Rivals “everybody is equal” and said he hasn’t ruled anything out.

However, Montgomery later told GoGamecocks.com that he plans to take his five official visits to Southern Cal, Miami, Michigan, LSU and Oregon. He said he is also considering South Carolina and Clemson.

Sam, Athens is about an hour and a half drive from Greenwood. UGA sends defensive ends to the NFL left and right.

Sam,

Pick up the phone and give Mr. Coates from Greenwood a call. If I recall we stuck with him after a serious knee injury his senior year in high school. Run that one by Coach Shell Dula, I’m sure your head coach can tell you what fine coaches we have at UGA.
