How It Went: Avoiding a hurricane to visit Tulane
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The threat of Hurricane Ike, which struck the Texas coast early Saturday morning, didn’t prevent Walton defensive lineman David Paulsen from visiting Tulane this weekend.
“We flew in on Saturday morning to Mississippi and drove the rest of the way [to New Orleans],” said Paulsen, who is rated as the 46th-best defensive end in the country by Scout.com.
“It really wasn’t too bad. Most of the weather passed around us. I had been [to Louisiana] one time before after Hurricane Katrina hit. It was eye opening to see the actual damage and the things that were closed down from it.”
Paulsen, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 selection, returned home Sunday afternoon. He was impressed with Tulane.
“I finally got out and met with my position coach and the head coach,” Paulsen said. “I got to walk the entire campus. You could walk from one side to the other in about 15 minutes. The whole experience was very good.”
Paulsen is mulling over scholarship offers from Air Force, Army, Miami (Ohio), Navy, Tulane and Western Carolina.
“I’m waiting to see what Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Oklahoma State are going to do,” he said. “I probably won’t make a decision for another month or so.
“But I am seriously considering Tulane.”

How It Went: Perry’s Farms watches Georgia edge South Carolina
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
After meeting a couple of South Carolina’s assistant coaches on the field prior to kickoff on Saturday, Perry guard Johnnie Farms settled into the recruiting section at Williams-Brice Stadium and saw Georgia defeat the Gamecocks 14-7.
“The trip went good,” said Farms, an AJC’s The Georgia Top 150 selection. “That was my first time going to a game there.
“It was kind of boring at certain points in the first quarter, but the game got real good. And it was hot over there.”
Farms, who didn’t get to greet South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier on Saturday, said the Gamecocks remain one of the teams he’s considering.
“They’re still the same,” said Farms, rated the sixth-best guard in the nation by Scout.com. “They were already high on my list.”
He plans to be at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 20 for the SEC West clash between Auburn and LSU. Farms denied rumors that he is leaning toward Auburn.

Road Trip: UGA has competition for McEachern’s Terrell Mitchell
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

McEachern tight end Terrell Mitchell, who is quickly emerging as one of the state’s top prospects, told the AJC that he has set up his second official visit.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Mitchell said he will travel to West Virginia on Sept. 27-28 for his first recruiting trip. He has scheduled an official visit to Georgia for Nov. 29-30, the weekend of the Georgia Tech game.
West Virginia has offered Mitchell, who will take the SAT for the first time in October. Michigan, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Central Florida and Louisville have also extended offers to Mitchell.
McEachern coach Kyle Hockman said Georgia’s coaches informed him that the Bulldogs will offer Mitchell if he scores well on the SAT.
Mitchell made an unofficial visit to Georgia last weekend, but said this Saturday he is unlikely to attend a college game.
