Road Trip: Michael Bowman ‘officially’ commits to Alabama over UGA

Ridgleand’s Michael Bowman, arguably the state’s top prospect at wide receiver, told the AJC he committed to Alabama on late Saturday night.

Bowman said that he met with Alabama’s coaches and told them of his decision after the win over Western Kentucky.

“I did it, it’s over” Bowman confirmed.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Bowman committed to Alabama over LSU and Oregon, among a dozen offers. Bowman was a lifelong Georgia fan and had wanted to commit to the Bulldogs since last June. Bowman said Georgia had offered a scholarship, providing he raised his test scores this fall.

However, Alabama and most of the other colleges recruiting Bowman had gone ahead and offered scholarships, with the assumption that he will eventually qualify. Bowman decided he was no longer going to wait on Georgia after seeing scholarships at his position come close to filling up at most of the schools recruiting him.

Bowman told the AJC earlier in the week that he wanted to wait to commit to Alabama’s coaches in person when he made an unofficial visit for Saturday’s home game.
