Alabama flirts with Auburn commit Atchinson
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchinson, who narrowly committed to Auburn over Alabama, appears to be taking another look at the Crimson Tide.
It all started after Atchinson watched Alabama’s defense dominate Clemson on TV. “I was kind of shocked. I didn’t think Alabama was going to be able to stop [Clemson running backs], but they sure did. It was impressive to see.”
Then Alabama linebackers coach Lance Thompson followed up with phone calls to Atchinson letting him know his services are still needed in Tuscaloosa.
“Even though I made a verbal commitment to Auburn, I haven’t closed the door yet,” Atchinson said, choosing his words carefully. “I’m still listening. [Thompson] wants me to come down for a game, so I’m going to check things out.”
Would Atchinson consider switching his commitment from Auburn to Alabama? “I can’t even say right now. It’s still early in recruiting. But Auburn’s still No. 1 with me.”

Around the bowl, and down the hole, Roll Tide Roll…
I’d feel really bad for this dude if he switches to bammer…But, I guess someone has to be on their sideline when they lose to Auburn for the next 5 years…I wonder if he watched any of the Tulane game last weekend…lol. Bammers aren’t so loud when JPW does what he does best. Take it from an Auburn fan, it’s much more fun when the defense doesn’t have to win the game for you because the offense can’t score!

Wow, Auburn is fallen fast. They have an offense that isn’t clicking, and recruiting really has been hurting since Bama is on level playing field. I guess it was good while it lasted for them. He is like their best recruit in 2 years and now he might be switching. Sorry Auburn, you still have Tony Franklin who you stole from Troy.

The kid knows the only place he’ll win a championship is to play for the Tide. You really show your intellegence with a statement like “Take it from an Auburn fan, it’s much more fun when the defense doesn’t have to win the game for you because the offense can’t score!” I’m sure all the barners are happy to have you on their side.

AFnPC….so you are one of those delusion Aubs who thinks BAMA will never beat AU again, huh? It figures you only judge Alabama based on the performance against Tulane and not Clemson. As for defense winning games, when AU finally plays a real team with a real defense, that pathetic high yardage, low scoring “spread eagle” will be exposed. A little pressure on Chrissy Todd and he gets scared. Burns is now back to his run only responsibility. Wouldnt be surprised to see you gusy lose you second in a row to MSU on Sat!

BAMA is killing the Barners in recuiting…it is only a matter of time before Aubarn graduates its great defense and Aubarn will slide down the SEC West conference. This player would benefit from being at BAMA…BAMA needs more LB’s…

To all you bammers…
I was eluding to the last few years with Brandon Cox at QB and our anemic offense…ULM just happenned to beat you guys last year, but I understand your amnesiatic condition with the state of bammer football over the last few years. I’d want to forget last season too if Auburn had finished out the season losing 4 straight and going back to Shreveport…Buy a condo, it’ll save you money in the long run! I can completely understand how you look at who the pollsters thought would be good, only to flop as usual, but Clemson obviously doesn’t have a defense and your pre-madonna QB doesn’t have what it cuts to be a starting QB in this league. Have fun getting overranked and then sinking back to mediocrity just like last year. See ya in Jordan-Hare west in Nov for 7 straight. Make 7-up Yours!

First of all, it’s PRIMA DONNA. I don’t know what an old pop singer has to do with football, but you are a barner so i guess I’ll have to let it slide. We had a let down against Tulane and that, combined with some injuries made for a poor offensive showing. That’s all there is to that. When Allbarn actually plays a team with a decent D we’ll see what a Troy coach with players recruited for the Power I offense can do with the Spread Eagle.

Are you kidding me????If it wasn’t for AU’s defense the past 7 years, they would have run Tubbs out of town years ago! your defense has kept you in EVERY game!! If AU had average defenses you would have lost 5 games a year!!! Just face it Barners your time is almost up!!!!!!!!!

afnpc, what your eluding to is called fear. You know it’s coming! Wingnut can’t recruit against Coach Saban or Coach Richt. Nobody wants to be on a team that’s on a downhill slide.

You havee got to be the biggest idiot ever. As far back as I can remember AU defense has been winning the games for them. One good year of offense in ‘04 and that’s it. There’s good and bad to both Bama and AU, but come on….. lets get real.

Ya got me Shuggy…What can I say? I’m human, and therefore prone to errors, but I can admit that. I completely agree with you that CTT would have been gone long ago if it wasn’t for the defense. I too understand what it’s like to have an on-again off again offense…What I was saying was that Atchinson shouldn’t want to deal with that, and won’t have to if he stays committed to Auburn. Bama can keep winning RNCs, but when it comes time to play on the field, all of those stars don’t mean squat, except you have a bunch of guys that want to be #1, but not be team players. Good luck with that…

Alabama could use alot more blue chip recruits. That way they may be able to prevent power house teams like LA monroe from coming down to the T town and taking you to the out house.Got to love the Crimson Tide.Wait didnt Mike Shula have some top 10 recruiting classes,Well maybe one day it will help against Auburn, yeah one day since every year we continue to lose the recruiting war and also continue to win the game

You Cowburn idiots need to realize your great Tony Franklin offense is stinking it up right now.
You also need to realize the barners will never win 5 more in a row. Yall had your time in the sun, and what do you have to show for it?
I can tell you. A 6 game winning streak over your big brother. Of course, that’s all that maters to the Cowburn fans. As long as you can beat Bama you could care less about anything else. SEC championships, National Championships….lets just beat big brother.

xxxbrandland….Ahhhh…the old ULM comment. You guys will be using that for years. But, FYI….Mike Shula never had a top 10 class. In fact, the 5 years prior to Saban’s arrival, according to Rivals, AU averaged a #11 class and BAMA #21. But I dont want to let facts get in the way. Your recruiting now is just taking whoever will committ. You recruiting is going downhill and your new offense is a joke. Lots of yard and very few points. Not to mention RB’s who cannot hold onto the ball, one solid WR and a QB who when he goes in, you know he will run it. SEC defenses are going to have a field day with the “spread”. But in the end, you guys are still living on your greatest football accomplishment ever and that is 6 in a row over UA.

Apparently that is human nature to be hateful and not understand. Its his decision alone and has nothing to do with fans. Why the hell should he care what the barnyard has to say. ROLL, and you other assorted Bama dips*(#!s:
You guys have got to be kidding. All Spring and Summer, you have been saying that Auburn’s recruiting class is weak, and all our early commits are useless. Now, you are proud of the fact that Saban is trying to pry one of these useless early commits away from Auburn. I thought you didn’t need our help evaluating talent, that Bama is the mythical recruiting national champion. Forbes said so, so it must be true … .
However, you delusional types should consider booking your reservations for Shreveport just in case, because that is where Alabama is going to be bowling again this year.
It amazes me how desperately you Bama fans want to waive off the six game losing streak. During that same period, Auburn has also beaten Florida and LSU (more than once) and Auburn has recorded the most recent undefeated season in the SEC. Bama being on probation, or being poorly-coached, or whatever the excuse du jour is, is just that - excuses instead of sober assessment. Auburn’s program is good and getting better all the time. Bama is on its fifth (or sixth) coach in 10 years.
Saban is a good coach, but it won’t matter because he will leave soon enough. Even success won’t keep him at Bama. Ask our LSU friends about that. LSU was the perfect situation for Saban and he left anyway.
Alabama won’t beat Auburn for 2 or 3 more years, because the Big Brother nonsense is silly posturing, and it doesn’t affect what goes on during the actual football game. Auburn knows Bama is vulnerable and we are going to keep laying the wood to your team until they give up football at the Capstone.

Hollywould…correct me if I am wrong but last I heard, there were 3 components to football. Offense, defense and special teams. Your D saved AU’s a$$ last year because of the inept offense that had (101 in the nation in passing). So we had a game where we were terrible and our special teams was outstanding. Seems to be with no offense that game, we only scored 7 points less than AU who played an equally bad team. If I remember correctly, the week before, AU put up 34 on ULM while BAMA put up 34 on Clemson. Oh….let me guess….Clemson was good last year when the Cow College played them but not this year?

SEC,
My point is you were playing Tulane/had 73 yards passing/no touchdowns and you are speaking of another team’s offense. Believe me, last year was pathetic offense for Auburn. I had to live through it. Funny, with that sorry a* offense still beat the bammers. I don’t know if this offense will work but it cannot be any worse than last year. Please don’t start on ULM. You can’t ever win that one.

We were beyond horrible last year and lost to ULM. This year we have played a great game against Clemson and a lowsy game against Tulane. AU has played to very average games against 2 below average teams. USM and ULM are no better or worse than Tulane. AU had a lot of yards on USM but only 24 points to show for it. And that was against a lower quality team. You have to imaging that it will be MUCH worse for you guys when you actually play a real team!

Bama’s down years are over you say,Yeah they looked really good against tulane.Clemson is a really great team,Auburn beat them with a partial playbook and Alabama just kicked them while they were still down.Really when a team has to call other head coaches after they get beat down, that win must feel pretty good.Alabama would of looked better then Auburns offense if not for the world famous green wave defense.Watch out for the steel curtain defense of Western Ketucky. Also when looking back at the great Bama teams I see La Tech and Central Flordia for some strange reason

Well I don’t think he has to worry about JPW, since he will be gone when he gets there.
And linebackers usually don’t worry that much about the QB. I believe most defenses would take pride in winning the game anyway. And why wouldn’t he want to be a part of the LB talent we are putting together.
Mcclain, Johnson, Hightower, Harris, Patrick (hopefully)…Atchinson
sounds good.
our offense struggled and we still beat Tulane by more than the barn beat S. Miss…and they are about even teams.

Guys, the reason this Atchinson deal is such a sensitive issue with aubbos is because: Since CNS arrived at Bama, this is the ONLY guy Bama actually recruited heavily who has chosen the barn. So this one fine young man is kinda their crowning recruiting achievment so far in the Nick Saban era. The thought of him switching is just more than they can bear at this point

Well, Bama is 2-0 and no one has scored an offensive TD against them this year. I think it’s comical that since Bama beat Clemson (picked by many to win the NTL title this year) is all of a sudden a crappy team and are still feeling the pain the barn laid on them last year in the peach bowl.Haha, Are you serious? Dear Duh;
You need to open the windows, buddy, and air out some of that 30 year old bulls*&t that you are obviously smoking. Don’t get high on your own supply, dude. Alabama has been middle of the road since the early 80’s. Dye beat Alabama 4 times in a row, Tuberville has 6 and counting. You better believe more beatings are on the way. Stay tuned!
As for probation, Bama paid over $100k for Albert Means to enroll in Tuscaloosa, and then you have the nerve to gripe about Tennessee for squealing. And all Stallings could say in defense was, “This is not true. We wouldn’t pay that kind of money for a lineman”. Oops. Maybe Gene Jelks got that kind of money, being a skill player and all, but surely not fat Albert. None of Bama’s crazy boosters is that unhinged. Wait a minute. Maybe the dead booster would have paid that. You remember, the guy who got beaten to death in an accidental fall down the stairs. Maybe the ghost of Bear Bryant pushed him?
The rest of the nation does respect Auburn. Auburn beat Florida during their national championship year. LSU barely beat Auburn by a fingernail last year, at home, at night, on national television, during their national championship year. Neither team went undefeated either, as Auburn did in 2004. Auburn getting denied the chance in 2004 has certainly helped the SEC in getting respect for NC consideration ever since then. LSU had two losses last year, for crying out loud. No matter, Auburn will get another chance soon.
If you think Bama is going to show up in Baton Rouge and compete as well as Auburn did last year, then you are as delusional as only a Bama nutjob can be. Bama doesn’t have a prayer against LSU this year, much less Bama winning against Auburn. We are coming to Tuscaloosa for number 7. In Tuscaloosa, where Auburn has never lost. How you can gloss over that fact is beyond me.
Auburn is winning the right way. Alabama is just a train wreck. Are you cool with the head coach caught with strippers, and players dealing coke in the school parking lot? Saban preaches discipline, yet can’t keep his players out of jail and he will probably leave in another year for the Redskins anyway.
You are convinced Bama’s down years are over? Auburn’s days are numbered? We recruit GA and FL way harder than Alabama ever has and we get our share. Saban is just filling out an empty depth chart, and once he can longer offer immediate playing time to a bunch of ego maniac five stars, those recruits will lose interest and go somewhere else that offers them immediate playing time.
Good luck this year rallying around Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson. We will give him the Brodie treatment this November. You remember Brodie running for his life in Auburn don’t you. I sure do. Oh yeah, Bama was down back then and couldn’t recruit effectively due to all the lousy head coaches, crazy boosters, punk players, yada yada yada.

Ask the exaubie HC which school in the State of Alabama had/has a system for paying players. Bama had nothing to do with the payola of Albert Means and the booster went to his death denying doing what he was accused of. Whether LY was guilty or not, something stinks about that Memphis trial. Shula may have some “top 20” recruiting classes but they were 20+ recruits short.
Allbarn has had us outmanned for several years but anyone who can’t see that fast and drastically changing just don’t want to see it and is in denial. Bama has been “mediocre” since 1980??? How many SECC’s and NC’s has the barn won since then? OK, we’ve been pretty bad the last several years and lost to annually mediocre schools like NIU, UK, MSU, ULM and AU…..we admit that…..now you admit that things are starting to look a lot different.

Paul Finebama….Does the phrase “keep in down home Cuz” mean anything to you. I always find it hilarious when a fan of the team with the most NCAA Major infactions talks about another team! Give me a break! You can take whatever shot at JPW you want but your offense is a joke and will be as successful as he is this year. I am sure SEC teams are going to be really scared of an offense that Franklin has been pimping to high schools through the years. He was hired out of despiration for recruiting and it has backfired because your current class, like last years, is a pathetic joke! And the best like you had is that AU is a nationally respected program!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That the best thing I have heard in a while. If you asked people outside of the south where Auburn is and no one would know. Who cares about team who hasnt won a NC in over 50 years?
Mikey…If you call BAMA a dumb, you have have never been down to that waste land referred to as the plainest village in the state!!!

Billy….Oh how stupid it is that AU will celebrate beating BAMA 6 times in a row as if it was the greatest accomplishment they have ever had in football. Oh, wait…It is their greatest football accomplishment!

Very impressive win tonight…3-2. LMAO! Sure the au D looked good against the msu O. Who hasn’t? Take into account Croom’s playcalling that may go down as some of the dumbest in CFB history and there you go…a 3-2 W. Think that’ll get it done vs. the rest of the SEC much less LSU and UGA? Keep dreaming if you do. BTW, does the Guru live out of a car? Does he own a razor? Very nice representative of your school(that was almost shut down by SACS btw.)
