State’s top two prospects, Carver’s Jarvis Jones and Washington’s Branden Smith, flooded with phone calls

Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones and Booker T. Washington defensive back Branden Smith are the consensus choices as the state’s top two prospects.

On Sept. 1, colleges could begin calling senior football players again. So who was dialing the digits of Jones and Smith? Both said they couldn’t remember all of them for sure, but listed as many as they could.

Jones, who denied rumors he is leaning toward Clemson, said he got voice mails from LSU, Georgia, Texas, Purdue, Michigan and Texas, among others. Jones said he missed all of the calls because of school and football practice.

Smith said he talked to Georgia, Michigan, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina, among others.

Jones and Smith are members of the AJC’s The Super Southern 100

Georgia is a great destination these days. Fine academics, strong ethics and character among the coaches, great record of training guys for the next level and winning in the SEC and nationally.

With the recruits and winning tradition we have at UGA, we are certainly now in the national elite and should be for some time.

Ga. is the hottest ticket for recuits nationwide without a doubt. USC second, who cares about 3rd and below. All serious recuits know this fact. The rest are in the dark.

Ga. fans enjoy the recruiting process as much as you want but be prepared for a minimum 3 loss season. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT be surprised if one of their losses is to Tech.

Buzzer…

I’m not one of those Dawg Fans who assumes we are going to walk through a very tough schedule. But if we do lose, it will not be to Georgia Tech. Your vaunted new offense plays right into Georgia’s Strength. A big fast defensive line and line backers who can run with your backs…

Something else to think about. If Moreno and Stafford stay - 10 of 11 back on offense and 7 of 11 on defense, with a lot of guys getting plenty of time on the field.

I have great respect for Paul Johnson and understand that he’ll win one every once in a while. But as long as CMR is at Georgia, your going to suffer more than celebrate.

Not a GT hater. Grew up in this state and have plenty of friends who for some reason consider themselves ‘Jackets’.

Good luck with your season..

Dawg 1 - great post, mostly right on target.

Post # 1 by Vince…what are you smokin’?…Fine academics? Who are you trying to kid bro?

McHarry College…right, that is also what I said…it’s in Tn, and slides right in above UGA at #37 on the best Law schools in the country…

PS 7 ACC schools and Univ of Fla rank higher on the Biz schools list…

I would support “comfortably average” at best.

Ethics & character? You read any news paper or watch any ESPN over the past 9 months? A hug and a lick on the nads by daddy Mark as punishment and you have 9 felons in the off season…

Next level…Odell, Quincy, Grant, Mercer…and thats just this year..

Again…more players drafted from the ACC last year and ever for that matter.

Ivylee, You need to actually do you dang research. UGA is a fine educational institution. You ever hear of US News and World Reports and College rankings. When you figure out how to use the internet I would ask you to actually look that up.

Buzzer, are you really this stupid?

“Ga. fans enjoy the recruiting process as much as you want but be prepared for a minimum 3 loss season. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT be surprised if one of their losses is to Tech.”

Do you really think that Tech can beat Georgia after you barely beat Boston College’s sorry team and Jacksonville State? When you beat FSU, Clemson, VT, etc it still won’t matter. We absolutely own Tech and that won’t change anytime soon. The talent level isn’t close and see what happens when you turn the ball over 3 times against us. We won’t score FG’s we will score TD’s. The Tech game won’t be close this season. The streak will be 8 and counting. What will your excuse be this season? Academics? Scholarships? GIve me a frigging break!

Hey Vince: The DOGS haven’t beat ANYBODY on the National level. BEAT So. Cal. or anybody at that level and then and only then can you talk. STRONG Ethics??? Half the team has been arrested and the other half can’t read. They’re a JOKE!!!
