Newnan QB reconsiders football options

Newan quarterback Russell Powell apparently has caught football fever.

Powell said a few weeks ago that he had decided to play basketball in college because he had better options. This weekend, Powell changed directions, saying he was not ready to choose between basketball and football.

“I’m not sure, it changes every day,” Powell said. “I’m just going to wait everything out and see what all I have in front of me in both sports.”

In football, the 5-foot-9 Powell has an offer from Air Forice and heavy interest from numerous smaller schools, including Wofford. In basketball, the point guard that averaged 19 points last year as a junior has offers from Furman, Gardner-Webb, Harvard and Toledo.

Go hoop it up at Harvard!

No-brainer: it’ll set the kid up for his post-ball future.
