Florida WR Wooten picks LSU over Georgia

The signs indicated that Glades Central (Fla.) receiver Rantavious Wooten was leaning toward Georgia.

But he pulled a mild surprise today by revealing that he has committed to the defending national champions.

“It’s LSU,” Wooten wrote in a text message to Scout.com.

Glades Central assistant principal Corey Brooks told Nola.com, “He said he did not sleep at all last night. He felt he would fit into the system at LSU and it would be his best shot for playing time.”

Numerous phone calls and text messages sent today and this evening from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to the receiver rated as the 28th-best in the nation by Scout.com went unanswered.

Wooten had promised for several weeks that he would choose between Georgia and LSU on Aug. 29.

Apparently he made a “silent” verbal commitment to LSU back in June and Wooten, his high school coach and LSU have been playing UGA and the recruiting services since then. What was really dicky, I mean tricky was LSU and Wooten playing out the rumor that he din’t have a “commitable” offer from LSU.

Well, I guess that is one way to get back for all of the aggravating phone calls from the media and the recruiters.

Sigh.. I wish he had come to UGA.

We certainly don’t want any player who doesn’t want to be a Bulldawg. There’s plenty of talented top ranked players who do… and judging by the early commitments, this will never be a problem with CMR at the helm. I’ve seen 2 freshmen QBs, who were former HS stars, struggle at this level the past 2 nights… and they weren’t playing a team like Georgia either. Only time will tell if Wooten will pan out at the SEC level of play.

These kids who make silent verbals and then play the media and other school for attention are basically showing a lack of character…anything for some attention. Unfortunately this comes with the territory when dealing with many of the elite-level high school athletes these days. Many are not from backgrounds that provide much in the way of ethics. Big on egos, low on IQ, and all with fantasies of NFL or NBA bling-bling. lol

Good for him. I won’t lie and say I didn’t want him, but after this charade, I’m kind of glad we didn’t get him.

Judging from his past few weeks, he’s a perfect fit at LSU — no class, a lot of hype. I hope for his sake he “grows” in the next few years. And I mean that in the broadest sense — grows in stature as a man, with a higher character; and grows physically, because 5’10” is short for a receiver in the SEC.

I remember when Marcus Stoud was on the cover of SI ripping off a Gayturd sweatshirt with a UGA shirt underneath — it is all in good fun, but sucks when it is you.

FWIW it was my understanding that Wooten tried to commit on his last visit but the LSU coaches urged him to take his time so the staff could sit on the decision to extend him an offer or not. Remember, LSU already has Bell, Wooten, and waiting on Randle. Add to that we have Benton from 2 classes ago expected to qualify in Jan.

The staff also has a good feeling about Debose but Wooten was the more definite possibility. We only expected to take 2 this year before we knew Benton had a shot at qualifying.

The coaches made a decision to extend a commitable offer sometime between his last visit and 3 weeks ago. He was not a silent from what I heard.

Wooten picked gumbo LSU over BBQ UGA. He’ll be running deep patterns next year right in y’alls own back yard. The boy just knows that 2 NC’s in 5 years beat no NC’s anyday. Wish the kid luck and quit b***’—head to head LSU just has the best facilities and is rolling in money from being Numero Uno ! Get used to being second choice ! See you whiners in Tiger Stadium for your a* whuppin’—-now geaux back to being your passed over selves ! Ain’t you guys used to it yet ? Tigerbait !

Labruzzo….Keep your attitude and your comments and your new runt receiver. Everyone in the country knows you’d have soiled your bloomers if you’d have had to play us in the SECC last season. You can thank the Vols and Cocks for that. And you’re playing in the NC game? Thank you’re whiny a*******ed puffed up coach. You were no more National Champ last year than we were…you won that game. That’s it! Once again, LSU has a “shadow” championship, just like the last one. How you figure you have the best facilities with your piece of crap hodge podge pile of concrete? Rent a clue, stupid. Everyone knows a degree from LSU is the same as a diploma from Arkansas.

Sounds like a perfect fit for LSU. A prospect that keeps leading people on, or a hat changing fool, we don’t need.

I don’t understand the to-do about this. He’s not close to a top-rated player, he just decided to go to LSU. Good luck to him.

“head to head LSU just has the best facilities and is rolling in money from being Numero Uno ! “

LOL! Who do you think you’re kidding. UGA has more money than LSU ever dreamed of. Go look at a ranking of athletic program profitability. Go look at a ranking of athletic program net worth. LSU is way behind UGA.

As for facilities, that’s an even bigger. LSU’s facilities are a joke compared to UGA. So try again corndog. As for Wooten, the kid’s a midget and only ranked 28th. I’ll take Bowman over him anyday of the week.

Hey Dannell and Rennie, how about the TWO A* WHIPPINGS you got from LSU in 2003? You beat a beaten up team in 2005. Go whine some more about how worthless y’all were last year when you couldn’t even win your own division of the SEC.

You GA fans really crack me up….this kid MUST be good if LSU even wanted him. Quit crying and get used to your players leaving GA to go to other schools. I’ll do an extra dance when he makes his first catch in a game against UGA.

As for the facilities, tell me about UGA’s indoor practice facility…oh wait, you don’t have one…LSU does. I’ve seen many interviews with recruits that are amazed at LSU’s facilities. When you win your first BCS championship years from now, then we’ll talk.

Not sure that played any part since LSU is also loaded at the WR position going forward. Terance Toliver, DeAngelo Benton, Chris Tolliver, etc.

If anything, him choosing to play for the Nat’l Champs shows he’s NOT afraid of competition.

Wooten will make a good backup and specials teams guy at LSU…. not starting material for at least 3 years down the road. With limited scholarships remaining, DAWGS are better suited to get starting material down the road.

I wish him good luck and hope he studies hard and gets a good education. I don’t quite understand the griping here about him wafflng; he made his choice way before natl signing day. Some of yall make way too big a deal out of HS recruits. No telling how they’ll actually work out. Have to admit that LSU has done quite well in recruiting lately, as have the Bulldogs; and Bama.
