Milton’s Williams big on Tennessee

University of Tennessee commitment Toney Williams of Milton intends to watch as many Volunteers games as he can, whether in person or from home.

The Volunteers’ opener Monday at UCLA is too far to attend, but Williams said you might see him at Tennessee’s home-opener against the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Sept. 13.

“I’d like to go to at least one home game, maybe even two or three,” he said. “I just want to see them play and get a feel for the atmosphere on game day.”

Williams has saved money for the college football TV package, and if he comes up a few bucks short, he won’t be bashful about asking his mom to chip in.

An AJC Georgia 150 pick ranked 48th nationally by Rivals.com, Williams ran for 850 yards and eight touchdowns last season for Milton (6-4) and had 158 yards and a touchdown receiving. He’s undoubtedly envisioning his contribution at UT, superimposing himself on the TV screen during Monday’s opener, televised on ESPN.

“I can’t wait,” Williams said. “I’m going to watch as many games as I can.”
