Dublin offensive tackle Trent Barnes has committed to South Florida, head coach Roger Holmes said Wednesday.
“He enjoyed the relationship he established with the people who recruited him,” Holmes said. “It’s a successful Top 25 program that has the opportunity to win a national championship.”
Holmes said Barnes received offers from Troy State, East Carolina and Western Kentucky.
Holmes said Barnes, 6-foot-3, 242 pounds, also has the potential to play tight end.
“He has excellent hands, and he is extremely athletic,” Holmes said. “He doesn’t play tight end for us because of the type of offense we run, but he can do that at the next level if he doesn’t put on the needed weight to be an offensive lineman.”
Barnes also plays basketball for Dublin. His brother, Thomas Barnes, plays linebacker for North Carolina State.
