LSU commit Kevin Minter offered by Bama

Peachtree Ridge linebacker Kevin Minter, who has committed to LSU, was recently offered by Alabama.

“It was cool,” Minter said. “It felt good to be offered by such a big-time program. [However] I’m still going to LSU.”

Minter, a member of the AJC’s Super Southern 100, picked the Tigers over Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Virginia, Purdue, Ole Miss, N.C. State, Kentucky and West Virginia, among other offers. Minter said he is unsure if LSU will be his only official visit.

“It depends on how my parents feel,” Minter said. “They have talked about wanting to compare LSU to another school, but it doesn’t matter to me because LSU is where I’m signing.”

Kevin, if you like LSU stick to it. Don’t waste the other schools money by taking a visit. If you know it is LSU and your parents agree, have a great and fun career.

LSU is on a roll, they are the school everyone else is shooting to be like. Miles is better than fans give him credit for. Saban will get us back to respectability within the next two years, if he stays that long.

We are so looking forward to seeing Kevin in Purple and Gold. Can you say future All-American?

It is a special time to be a LSU Tiger. LSU has become a national contender who can now go into other states and lure the best talent to LSU. Coach Saban deserves credit for creating the possibility, Coach Miles has surprised us all with his ability to carry on and unbelievably upward.

We were devastated when Saban left. But we couldn’t be happier with the job Miles has done. Now that Saban is at ‘Bama, you guys will be back on top in no time. The LSU-‘Bama rivalry could become one of the biggest in football if you guys go where I think Saban can bring you (and we can continue staying on top). It could be Bear vs. Charlie Mac all over again. Hopefully this time we’ll win the lion’s share of the games :)

Lloyd…I know that you are too young to understand, but SABAN is not responsible for the LSU GREATNESS, it is PAUL DIETZEL, I wish that LSU would give him the credit due him, but I am afraid that they never will, what SABAN did was to go to a loaded LSU and use them to get to where he is today…maranatha!!!

A nice story! Comittment is a wonderful thing, especially at such a young age. What really surprises me is the civility of the preceding comments. I am REALLY impressed.

Welcome to LSU, Mr. Minter.

It’s nice to see a young man stick to his word no matter which school you had verbally committed. This will serve you well in your future life outside of football.

I’m shocked urban wasn’t doing the same as saban. Why spend you time with liars and people who really don’t care about the player, just their ability and how they can help them keep their pay.

Kevin, thanks for being a MAN of your word. Be sure to tell the other coaches( Saban ,etc.) who are still trying to recruit you that.

Congrats to Kevin on his accomplishments, on having so many offers and options, and especially on having such focus! He sounds like an honorable person and man of his word (unlike what’s-his-name, the Bama coach). If Kevin is adamant about playing football in the SEC he should read a book by a Tennessee and Vandy grad titled “Dixieland Delight”. Kevin can receive an excellent education at LSU if he wants it - it’s there, available, and up to him to take it. Same goes for an NFL career; it’ll be available too, just look at some of his predecessors. I’m from Texas but for college went to both LSU and Bama. I’ve traveled all over the USA, and have worked, lived and traveled all over the world (‘cept the old USSR and Africa). But LSU and Louisiana are unique and have a flavor, an atmosphere, a people and a history unlike any other place in our wonderful country or the world. It’s fun to be in a “locals” restaurant in Singapore or Hong Kong and find Tabasco sauce from Avery Island, Louisiana on the table - but not too much from Tuscaloosa. But whether in Beijing or Baton Rouge, I always enjoy coming “home” to LSU, to New Orleans, to Breaux Bridge, to Cajun country. Surely Kevin, too, would never regret attending LSU and playing in Tiger stadium on Saturday nights.

Dude! Are you crazy? Saban walked into a decimated and ridiculous LSU team and turned the program around. Alabama OWNS LSU in the bayou. Only in recent years has LSU been talked about and that is because Alabama has been on probation for the past 10 years. Wake up and smell the cough syrup, because your team is about to go 7-5.

Alabama has the dumbest, most delusional fans imaginable. Its like Gomer Pile made love to every woman in a psyche ward and their children came together as the Alabama fan base.

About to go 7-5? He might be a bama fan. But I’m willing to bet ARedDawn hasn’t attended school there. Somone that ignorant couldn’t have graduated high school…..much less be accepted into a university!

The comments were so nice and civil. But then, a Bama fan has to post and start to be derogatory.

Saban vs Miles 101:
Mr. Minter’s commitment decision shows he considered strength of character as well as strength of football program. Miles wants to win with kids of good character, morals and ethics, and he means it. Saban just wants to win.

When Lloyd Carr was fired, remember the hullabaloo about Miles leaving LSU for Michigan? Remember Miles’ press conference just before the LSU national championship game?

I recall Saban at LSU saying he wanted only kids “with good character”. Then I remember Saban leaving LSU for $7 million. Since I live here, I remember Saban with the Miami Dolphins hiring Marcus Vick. Remember Marcus Vick, Michael’s brother? Marcus was suspended by Virginia Tech for a whole season due to 2 criminal CONVICTIONS for possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor involving a 15-year-old girl. Later Vick was was involved in several highly-publicized incidents during the season, including displaying his middle finger to the opposing West Virginia crowd and also violently stomping the leg of a Univ of Louisville player in the Gator Bowl. He was finally kicked off the VA Tech football team by the university president (not the coach) “due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play”.

Remember Saban, still with the Miami Dolphins, saying he was not going to take the Univ of Alabama coaching job? Right, not until 1 day after their last losing game and just before signing for about a $32 million package.

What do Ryan Perrilloux, Derrick Odom, Jeremy Benton,Troy Giddens, Zhamal Thomas, Kyle Anderson, and Jarvis Jones have in common. Sadly, they players were dismissed from LSU’s football team by Les Miles. Why? Character flaws.

What does dismissing your star quarterback, who you hope might guide you to another championship, tell you about Les Miles? I think Mr. Minter knows.

Good choice Kevin.

Don’t worry about slick Nick Saban convincing Kevin to go to Bama. But Kevin better watch out for Urban Meyer at Gatorland attempting to lure him away from LSU. Old Urban is the slimiest coach around as far as saying negative things about opponents to recruits he is interested in and bad-mouthing opponents’ schools. He was just lucky Tebow’s parents were Gators and had already brainwashed the kid.

WOW

Red Dawn are you talking about ULM or LSU?

I think all the Louisiana schools owned Alabama last year. Your boy Saben won’t be there long enough to build you program back as someone will offer him $5 more to coach there school.

Get out of the past !!!!!! Gas used to be .25 a gallon too .
