Westlake seniors drawing recruiting interest

One of the biggest surprise teams of the year could be senior-laden Westlake.

The Lions were 5-5 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2004. But the 30-plus seniors on the team are primed to turn things around. While offensive lineman Chance Warmack — an AJC Georgia 150 selectee who has committed to Alabama — gets most of the attention, several other seniors are getting serious recruiting looks. Running back Jarrett Kyles said he has received “about 40 or 50” letters from Middle Tennessee State.

“And they are hand-written notes, too, which is kind of cool,” said Kyles (5-foot-11, 190 pounds), who ran 4.45 in the 40 at Auburn’s camp this summer. “Auburn has sent me letters and Georgia Southern, too.”

Kyles said he thinks an offer will come from MTSU once they see some game film. Many of his fellow senior teammates are in a similar situation, including defensive end/offensive lineman Todd Wilcher (6-1, 240), who is being recruited by Georgia Southern, Indiana, Troy and Ole Miss.

“[Georgia Southern] said they were going to come up and see me play, and they want to see some film, too,” Wilcher said.

Other Westlake players being heavily recruited include running back Devon Babb (Alabama-Birmingham, MTSU, Savannah State and Troy), defensive back Dwayne Fields (MTSU and Georgia Southern), receiver Robert Jennings (Alabama-Birmingham, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Troy and Vanderbilt), quarterback Lewis Kindle (Eastern Kentucky, Leon, MTSU, Tennessee-Martin and Troy) and safety Julian Smith (Georgia Southern and West Virginia).

The real GSU should be on these guys. STATE will field a much better class than Tech next year. Poor Tech, not only does UGA out recruit them in-state, but now they’ll have to contend with STATE too. Kennesaw State will be recruit the crumbs from UGA’s able too in a couple more years.

Tech is on a downward spiral in football — self destruction. I can’t think of any other D1 schools that actually lessen the seating capacity in their stadiums … nope, not even one.

I think the problem might be the type of student that Tech attracts. Smart, yes no doubt about that. But a smart kid that is very UNathletic. Punjabi, Raji, Patel, Singh, etc. Smart kids, but not going to field a crowd for Saturdays on the flats. And the women, oh there is something about that dot that really drives me wild! SEXY!!

Skeeter, I am a Tech fan but I will say this, I absolutely fall out of my chair laughing at some of your posts, you are an original. Keep us in stitches, it is hilarious. There is NO WAY IN HELL you can hate Tech that bad but… Mr Gordy (?) got p** off at them enough to open the Varsity (Originally the yellow jacket I believe) and the rest is history. The only thing I can think of is Tech denied you admission some time ago and exiled you to ABAC or Gordon Jr College and the heat in Tifton or Barnesville warpped your brain!!!! Anyway, you are an original and do not p** me off!!

P.S. My son grew up GT, now attends UGAY, I told him when he got accepted that I had some bad news for him, he would have to get some black and red for his wardrobe and my money now goes to UGAY, talk about brain damaged, that would be me!!!!!!!!

To Those About To Rock I SALUTE YOU! You “get it.” I can tell from the way you’ve reportedly raised your son that you are indeed a good person! UGA bound is excellent! I did not attend Tech, as you guessed — UGA, BA ‘91, Emory ‘98 for graduate school. I am a native Atlantan, and growing up in the ATL you hear so much SMACK about Tech (mostly from a generation ago “50s” stuff) — just kind of grew that “chip” on my shoulder. I think Tech is a fine academic institution, really! It has been nice that HOPE has actually made UGA close the gap academically — which is all Tech has had to fuel the feud, and that’s gone now too.

It is all about fun — or “good clean hate” as it is billed. Tech is such an easy target.

Skeeter, you sure spend a lot of time bashing Tech. Could this be because you have such an inferiority complex (and you try to make yourself feel better by saying negative things about others, usually those you think are superior to you). I am a Tech grad, and your rantings do not bother me (since I have no respect for your opinion). But, I certainly have no hard feelings toward you and pray that you will experience an increased level of confidence so that you will not spend your time criticizing others in an effort to make you feel better about yourself.

To All dogs are Buttlickers I received a blessing from the Lord today — An angel appeared to me & said that Someone named Buttlicker had prayed for me; and that on my deathbed I would receive total consciousness. So I’ve got that going for me, which is nice!

It is precisely you, and the many “yous” out there that I write my inflammatory remarks, because I owe it to you! All the Buzz Nation clad in pee pee colored shirts. All the little people nerds one and all! MAGE Attack!!

Yellow Skeeter, hope your Angel was right, because you are, and have been unconscious for a long time. All I need to say is, hope you wake up soon, which should mean your bashing of the world is over.

This yellow skeeter guy is an idiot, I know that’s a typical UGA fan. They’re just not too bright. You talk about being unathletic, how atheletic are you? Probably never played a sport in your life, talking crap!! I picture bald. fat, and smelly!
