UGA commitment Fontaine gets high marks

Arthur Fontaine, who committed to Georgia this week, is the No. 5 tight end in the country, according to Rivals, but he was the Bulldogs’ No. 1 choice.

Rivals national recruiting director Mike Farrell, who is based in Connecticut and has seen Fontaine up close, understands why.

“He’s the most complete tight end in the country when it comes to blocking and catching,” Farrell said. “The others are more athletic who are ranked higher, but they’re going to have to learn to block, and Arthur won’t.”

Rivals’ No. 1 tight end, Logan Thomas of Virginia, is a high school quarterback who has never played the position.

Orson Charles, rated No. 4, is faster but lacks size at 6-foot-2, 216. Charles, a teammate of quarterback Aaron Murray, a Georgia commit, also has been recruited by Georgia.

Fontaine, who is 6-5, 240, caught only 10 passes last season and plays in a state not known for its high school football, But he has become a prize recruit based on his work in summer camps.

“He’s a well-rounded, physical, hard-working, typical Northeastern kid who will roll up his sleeves and smack the person in front of him or sneak out into the flat,” Farrell said. “Stealing him away [from Boston College] is a big deal. You don’t get kids out of Massachusetts if BC wants them, usually.”

Welcome to Athens Mr. Fontaine. We are glad to have you. In an offense that uses the tight end frequently, this young man should flourish. Not to mention that UGA has put out some of the best TE talent into the NFL in recent years.

Will play at 265 and clear out a lot of end sweeps for our tailbacks, catch 25 passes and 4-5 TD passes a year. Yea, It’ll work !

Success breeds success. And over at he North Ave. Trade School it breeds contempt. Come on Nancy Boys, jump on the UGA bandwagon — the train is about to leave the station, UGA’s going to win the National Championship — I’ve been saying this all Spring/Summer, and now SI & Coaches America are saying the same thing. I’ll boldly go a step further, UGA will win back-to-back National Championships. Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now!

Too bad Tech is filled with self-loathing latent homosexuals!

Dear YellerSkeeters are PeterEaters…..I too am one of the biggest Dawg fans in the world and love UGA football. However, you are setting us up for failure and we have no where to go down according to you. Temper your enthusiasm a little. Yu can crow a little if we do indeed win the whole thing - but not until then. A coach once told me this - “Say little when you lose and say even less when you win”. Go Dawgs!

Wow, UGA had to take a lowly # 5 tight end. Well guys, you cannot get all the #1’s. Oh yeah, just in case UGA does not win the NC, what is your # 2 plan, yellow skeeter? Wait a minute, “tight end”, seems he might do well in a tickle pile.

Looks like only UGA people are voting on AJC recruiting poll. Coaches style of play is leading and chance to earn a degree is way behind.

Boston College sucks. It’s not hard to “steal away” a prize recuit every few years. The rest of them can go to BC.

Congratulations to this young man for choosing an excellent University for continuing his education along with playing in a nationally respected football program. And, of course, congrats to the school for once again extending its recruiting reach outside the Southeast. Welcome, Mr. Fontaine.

Denver Dawg, Not sure what football you are watching, but BC doesn’t suck. They also do very very well in their own backyard. If they want a kid from mass they get the kid in almost every situation. The last player uga has gotten from that area in mass was jermaine wiggins. This is a huge get because he was a bc commit and then he decommitted and had no intention of going to Georgia until he visited and then it was overwith.

Hey Bee, When did I make any of those claims? You must be pretty proud of that score against the mighty Cumberland football program. Hmmm…1916…around the last time Tech was decent. Yeah, college football was super competitive back when Princeton and Yale regularly vied for a piece of the title! Maybe you nerds can put up a tenth of that incredible score against Duke this season…maybe. No matter what happens to UGA this season one thing is certain, when the dweebs from North Ave. come to town the beating will be severe. Now get off our blog, nerd.

Make you a deal Dick, stay off ours and I’ll stay of yours. You must remember that in 1916, UGA was in the same class as those teams you mentioned. And as I have asked before, if all the great expections for UGA do not happen, what is plan # 2?

Have you ever seen me on yours? Didn’t think so. Umm….I mentioned two teams that (along with Harvard) regularly won national championships in those days. I realize you were attempting to criticize UGA, but maybe you should brush up on your history (maybe you should also read up on the Cumberland game you tout as such an amazing accomplishment). I suppose it’s just your inferiority complex manifesting itself—thats understandable. And to answer your question (again)—if in fact UGA must revert to plan #2, as you call it, it will be to thoroughly embarass your laughable program at the end of the year. Got it? I would normally expect one of your brilliant retorts, but I’m sure you’re a man of your word and will no longer blog here, no matter how badly you want to take a peek. Night, nerd.

Disney, “excellent university (sic)”??? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! He may get to play big time football but that…degree….well check with him after the coaching staff convincing of his future career prospects with a Sport Studies degree!

Mr. Fontaine. Welcome to the South. You are about to learn the definition of “redneck.” Just remember - we’re not all like UGA fans!

Seems to me that some of our people are setting us up for a hard fall. Don’t keep knocking heads with other blogers about how good we are and how bad we are gonna beat so and so. Play it cool, cause you know that if we slip against Fl., SC., GT or any body else they are going to be on us like ants on honey. Be cool.
