Fresh off a summer break which included visits to Alabama and Georgia, Pepperell junior quarterback Jonathan Watters has now shifted his focus to the Dragons’ upcoming season.
During the journey, several major college scholarship offers are expected to roll in for the 6-foot-3.5, 195-pound Watters.
“He doesn’t have any offers yet, but they’re evaluating him,” Pepperell coach Jeff Shiflett said.
“This summer, he had the opportunity to go to Georgia to their one day camp. And he went to Alabama too. There are a lot of people looking at him.”
Watters, a pro-style pocket passer, hopes to receive offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.
Shiflett, who succeded longtime Pepperell coach Lynn Hunnicutt last season, believes offers from such SEC powers isn’t out of the realm of possibilities for the young quarterback.
“He’s worked real hard and has the physical tools,” Shiflett said. “He came on for us last year in game four, and we made it to the quarterfinals.
“He really sparked our offense. I feel good about him.”
Watters is among 10 offensive starters returning this season for the Dragons. He took part in the Scout.com combine at the Georgia Dome and Mike Hodge’s quarterback/receivers camp at Middle Georgia College in Cochran during the summer.

Too bad for this kid that UGA has two of the Top 10 QBs in this year’s upcoming class (1 will likely redshirt), which means we probably won’t recruit him. If UGA goes after any QB for 2010, it would be an elite prospect (5 star, ranked 1-5)
Good news for him is that GT likes little boys, Auburn too!
