Tight end Fontaine is UGA’s 13th commitment

Tight end Arthur Fontaine of Dartmouth, Mass., who committed to Georgia on Tuesday, still can’t believe the way his recruiting played out. He is Georgia’s 13th commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.

“I never had any intentions of going to Georgia when they first offered,” Fontaine said. “But I visited and loved it. Then I visited Georgia again last week and loved it more.”

Fontaine, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 4 tight end by Rivals, actually gave a secret commitment to Georgia coach Mark Richt at the end of his three-day trip to Athens last Friday. Fontaine waited until Tuesday to reveal his decision because he wanted to inform his other finalists: Boston College, Virginia and Maryland.

“Coach Richt was real excited, and then [Georgia assistant Mike Bobo] told a funny story: He said he had a dream about me, that I signed with Georgia but reported at 211 pounds. He said ‘Oh no, I thought you were going to be 245 because we really need that big tight end in our offense.’ I was laughing the whole time.”

Fontaine said it was his “gut feeling” that led him to the Bulldogs. He also said the blessing of his mother played a critical role in his final decision.

“My mom loved Coach Richt and Georgia, which just confirmed how I felt about everything,” Fontaine said. “I still can’t believe this kid from Massachusetts is going down to Georgia, and that the No. 1 team in the country wanted me so badly. My mom just said everything happens for a reason, and she’s right.”

Fontaine committed to Boston College in early May, but backed off it a few weeks earlier because he felt he rushed his decision. He said he won’t be changing his mind about the Bulldogs. “Recruiting is over for me.”

Also considered APP ST, Troy and Georgia Tech. What a steal for my Dawgs…….Ho Hum. Another National Recruit. The “MACHINE” gets bigger and Better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 20 blue chippers a year = 10-12 wins a year. That’s in SEC by the way, not the BIG TEN.

The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy!

I’m already looking forward to his and the other recruits arrival next year. Whether or not he pans out to be an All American in college, UGA fans have to be excited about snatching a player right out from under BC’s nose. Nice recruiting coup!

Fontaine commits to UGA (4 stars), that’s fantastic! North Dartmouth, MA? Wow. Not really an historical hotbed for UGA talent. I have to really scratch my head to think of any other players from New England at UGA (ever). That is really an awesome accomplishment. Recruited by John Lilly. Way to go John!!!

REAL Football, National exposure, a program that is a dynasty in he making — plus a National Championship as a freshman (back-to-back) … what’s not to love.

I keep telling those North Ave. Nancy Boys to jump on board the band wagon. Put aside their petty jealousy, think of UGA as their STATE’s charter university … love us, don’t hate us because we are beautiful! But there is something in their nature that prevents them from joy. REJOICE! Dawgs Rule!

Why is that SKEETERs? Why must you suffer so. Could it be that you are a collective of latent homosexuals?

Come to think of it, does anybody know if Georgia’s ever had a player from MA? I can’t think of anybody.

P.S., this goes along with my thinking here the last few years. I remember what a huge stress Coaches Goff & Donnan put on recruiting in-state, which I know you have to do as it’s easier sometimes to get those kids to stay closer to home, but I just remember how most of the time we were out-recruited by teams like Tennessee. I remember looking at our roster and their roster and they had players literally from all over the country and we had 90% players from Georgia and they were killing us every year. I’m glad to see the current coaching staff searching all over for not just the best talent in the state or even in the Southeast, but the whole country! Keep it up. Go Dawgs!

Another quality recruit for a quality program.

Georgia Football is emerging as a national program. CMR and his staff are to be commended for their focus on quality young men.

Regardless of the outcome of the 2008 season, Georgia football has arrived and will remain a fixture in the nations top programs as long as the Richt era lasts.

Go Dawgs!

Yo Yo!! Jimmy Johns here sending a shout out to all of his Bama pimps from the Alabama State Correctional Facility….Fontiane, you should come to Tuscaloosa to play ball and deal some blow, that is what I did. I was dealin’ blow and Coach Saban, or as I call him O.G., did not seem to care, nor did any of my team mates. Unfortunately, I got caught up in a sting operation, but I am hoping that these in-bred Bama jock sniffers will be able to spring me out of the clink in time for the first game — it usually works out that way over here….it’s all goooood…peace

Man, what a bunch of haters. An 18 year old young man just made the most dificult decision of his “young life” and we all want to “dis” each others programs.
Welcome to UGA and the “CLASSIC CITY” Mr. Fontaine and prepare to play for championships and the NFL. UGA uses their Tight Ends as a weapon and showcases their talent unlike any program in the country. It’s our answer to the spread offense. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you score on “THIRD AND GOAL” from the 2 as everyone looks for the run! One question? Did the pretty southern girls sway your decision any? Just curious.

GO DAWGS!!!

SWEET HOME ALABAMA ,

Lets take a minute to point out that Alabama has had more off season crap this year than anyone in the SEC. You have lost starters to jail system. We haven’t lost anyone worth mentioning.

I do have a question… When will you guys ever get off probation? How many scholarships do you have again?

You know whats sad? Everyone in the SEC talks about your best player being your QB. He sucks. Come back in 10 years and tell me how good you are again… mmmmkkkaaaay? Bear Bryant is rolling over in his grave from your stupidity.

WTF is a Tide anyway? I think I wash my clothing with it. Seriously don’t try and explain it.

Since your a brick do us all a favor and go jump in a lake. See ya on the 10 o’clock news!

gt45,

I know its easy to feel high and mighty.

After all, our assistant coach and the only QB to recently post a winning record against our rival was arrested for cocaine possession, DUI, and hit and run…and then had to resign from his coaching position.

Maybe you know him….Joe Hamilton? Oh wait, I forgot, he’s a Tech man.

You pathetic Tech fans make me sick. Do you ever get tired of rooting for a perennial loser?

Florida=the joke is on you. Mareno’s final decision came down to Georgia or Florida (he really liked Florida, but he determined that Florida’s offense was not the best fit for him). Mareno’s decision was not a Georgia vs. Valdosta State like this guy (oh, I am sorry…I mean Georgia vs. Maryland, BC, or Virgina). My point…he was not heavily recruited by a lot of big NC type programs. That would concern me somewhat, no matter what his ranking is.

Hey Delusional Alabama fans.

The answer: 1999. The question: Other than 1992, name the ONLY year since 1979 that Alabama won an SEC title. Also its the only yr since 1995 where they even won the division. Alaama has had more losing seasons since 1992 than Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee. Face it guys. Bear is dead, and so is the Alabama mystique. Yeah, in the 70s you guys were great..so was disco. Auburn has beat you 6 yrs in a row. You are no better than the 6th best program in the SEC. So how is it you guys act like your So Cal? you’re program more resembles So. Miss.

And the worst part (for you)…you still have to live in Alabama.

AF.. have a great Sr year and enjoy being part of the Dawg nation. I know you are not shocked by all the non-UGA contributers to this blog. A lot of undereducated, jealous “fans” are poo-pooing Georgia getting Fontaine— and every other blue-chipper they sign. Rivals has him at no. 4 nationally— dis them. All Arthur had to look at is how many UGA tight ends have gone the NFL. As for the Ebb Tiders: What was your record last year?
