TE recruit Fontaine to commit on Tuesday

Arthur Fontaine, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end from Dartmouth, Mass., will commit to Boston College, Georgia, Maryland or Virginia on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

“My decision has been made,” Fontaine said shortly after 6:30 p.m. today. “I’ll be announcing it [on Tuesday] at 1 o’clock.”

Fontaine, the fourth-best tight end in the nation according to Rivals.com, said he doesn’t plan on holding a press conference.

“I’ll just start texting and calling people at that time,” said Fontaine, who visited Georgia last week. Fontaine admitted to the AJC over the weekend that he nearly committed to Georgia during his three-day trip to Athens.

He has already notified coaches at the program he intends on calling home for the next four years.

“They’ve known about my decision since Friday,” Fontaine said. “I’ll be e-mailing coaches at the other schools about my decision tonight.”

It is great news if he choses UGA because not only is Arthur Fontaine one of the top high school TEs in the nation, but by all accounts he is a quality young man. It speaks volumes that both Arthur and his family would chose to travel so far from home to earn a degree and further his football career. Go Daaawwgggss!

Another TE? Big Whop? The TE position plays a key role in the UGA offense. Tripp Chandler was huge in several games last season (Bama and Vandy to name a couple) and is a Mackey Award candidate this year. And look at the TE’s that UGA sends to the NFL, Randy McMichael, Leondard Pope, Ben Watson, Larry Brown, Jermaine Wiggins, Martrez Milner. A kid choosing to play TE at UGA is setting himself up for the possibility of playing in the NFL in addition to getting a great education! Welcome to Athens, Mr. Fontaine! Go DAWGS!

He hasn’t committed yet…why are all of you so quick to assume he’ll pick UGA? It would seem that way after reading the article, but these kids are awful fickle. Let’s not get too wound up over someone committing in August either. Actually, I wish we could not get wound up about any recruits period. The large majority that make the most noise are never heard from again.

Dawgs need to root for something….. hope you get your TE….UGA and TN positioning for 2nd in SEC as URBAN MEYER is putting the pieces together to have a real machine in Gainesville.

  • Gators are on the way up! And will have serious separation to the rest of the SEC EAST field. Their recruiting has been better than the Dawgs (and about everyone else in the nation - and this year - they have a much much easier schedule.
  • National Media loves Urban Crier - due to Notre Dame roots and being from Big 10 country. Florida is now a high profile team - thanks to Spurrier and now the Urban media love fest. Up there with Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC and Michigan. Media drooling for Penn State to be relevant again.

This has an impact on recruiting - has an incredible state to recruit - and can pick nationally as well. UGA is and always be high second high tier - much like Auburn, UCLA, and Wisconsin.

  • GATORS WILL WIN SEC EAST THIS YEAR: Dawgs lose Sturdivant - your best OL. An area in which UGA is thin, inexperienced, and will be effected. Again your schedule is just a monster.

  • Schedule: Playing LSU - FL - KY - AU back to back to back to back on the road with a freshman / sophomore offensive line - you guys are smoking crack if you think you will be undefeated - I am thinking 1-3 or 2 - 2 at best.

  • TN has your number - you sucked last year at K-TOWN. Beat you last 3 of 4 years. UGA has week off before this game…would like to see you beat tht Vols - will be a battle - looking forward to a great game between two monster programs.

  • Bama will upset UGA this year in a BIG upset….mark it down. UGA coming back from AZ STATE. Bama tuning up weekend before and will be prepared.

  • Bama Offense will be better than UGA’s this year. YOU LAUGH????

Check this out: GA has the QB and RB - but your entire receiver corp is only good - nothing special about this group at all.

BAMA has a very good leader at QB - very good running backs - OL is a lot better than UGA - and will be at least on par if not better at WR than UGA.

DEFENSE: Bama will be solid - Defensive Line will be as good as UGA - although UGA will have more depth. Secondary will surprise as BAMA will be very athletic - and LB corp will be good - but not great - but will play within itself.

UGA will lose 3 games minimum this year in the regular season. Could lose 4 or even 5 games. Will not win the SEC EAST - and will win their bowl game.

The tough tough schedule will make a fun season to watch - but UGA is way overated.

Buckhead Eagle, there are SOOOO many ways I could attack your ridiculous statements, like “BAMA has a very good leader at QB”, but I’ll stick to just one: “UGA is way overated”. This “overrated” UGA team beat UF by two touchdowns last year and here’s something for you to ponder: As a STARTER against teams ranked in the top 25, Tebow 1-4; Stafford 8-1!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the Heisman trophy in Gainesville, we’ll enjoy the SEC championship trophy and the Sears Trophy in Athens!

Buckhead Eagle shows his ignorance using the Sturdivant injury as a reason UGA won’t win the SEC and leaves off the fact that UF lost their safety and All-SEC TE in Cornelius Ingram.

To say that Bama’s offense will be better than UGA’s is beyond ridiculous and shows this guy knows zero about football.

Florida will lose 3-4 games this year because their defense will be horrible yet again.

Oh, and Buckhead Eagle is probably nothing more than a ticked off BC fan. Let’s see how good BC is this season without Matt Ryan.

Also, tell Aaron Murray that UGA is “second-tier.” The #1 QB in Florida chose to commit to UGA.

Oh, and UGA is much higher than UF in all-time wins and win percentage. More ignorance from you.

It is sad that such a talented OL is hurt like that. The same for Ingram at Florida. I feel bad for these kids. As a Florida fan, losing Ingram was especially sad because of what a great person he was. He worked his butt off to become one of the bes TEs in the country (he originally was a QB). He even said no to the NFL to get his degree at Florida and try to help the team try to win another NC (by the way, Mike, Florida already has one of those Sears trophies in their case). I hope both players have a quick and fully recovery. This is not about Florida beating Georgia…it is about kids getting seriously hurt. Seems like some of you have forgotten that point.

Does anyone know if UGA has any interest in Josh Jarboe. Give the kid a chance. It is not like he is a terrible person. And, for all of you self righteous people, look at your past. When you were a kid did you make mistakes? Plus you support a president that is getting people killed for his own wealth and lying to the public about everything. Are you saying anything about that.

rfsbkr…can see the association between our fighting men and women and the CIC. All has not gone very well on that front. I would let some other school take a chance on JJ. Dawgs do not need a player who promotes gun violance and hate. I am not saying he does not deserve a 2nd chance but he sounds like a better fit for Jacksonville St U. or UNLV. I would pass on this guy for sure.

TampaGator- Your supportive comment toward both of these players is welcomed in these sometimes divisive blogs. I’ve seen your studied comments many times. Yes, it is all about these two young men and all the hard work and preparation in their lives. No one seems to understand or feel the ripple through the teams and their coaches, their families and their friends as to the loss for each player. It goes beyond the individual player’s loss. Let us all hope that each one is able to rehab back to a playing responsibility as soon as possible for their sakes, not ours. The states of the teams are always affected by individual losses from the teams. How much depends on the team and coaches. Fans, cool it with the angst over team loss. More will occur during practice and season game play. It happens to all teams and will continue. Transfer your feelings of loss to the players and their families. They need the cheering up, not us.

rrsbkr, unfortunately I did read your post. I did so because I thought you might actually have a lucid comment. I was wrong. You barely touched on football when you turned on the “self righteous” (people of faith?), and ended with your Bush bashing. There are plenty of liberal media outlets for those who wish to blame others for their frustrations, thousands of trees to hug, and plenty of protests in which to participate. Go ahead, victim, take your pick. LMAO.

rfsbkr, oops, I responded too quickly to your post. Looks like you added something and posted it twice. You need to depress the post key just once.

What are you guys promoting? Wher do you get that he promotes gun violence and hate? Where did this come from? Was it directed towards me? If so, then you’re the one who can’t read. I take that back. You can read, you just can’t comprehend.

For what it’s worth, I don’t agree with everything Bush has done but I don’t blame him for everything that goes wrong. I hate the Iraq war and was against it from the start. I know a family whose son lost a leg in Baghdad. For goodness sakes, don’t try to compare this tragedy with a kid who was kicked off the OU football team. It just doesn’t work.

Maddog good for you. We all need to stay on point. This is afterall a football section of the paper. No politics or quotes from church elders.

Still believe JJ should not be in a UGA uniform, ever. Too many other good football players out there with good moral fiber. What he did would have been a serious red flag for most players and they would have put as much distance between themselves and this “thug” mentality. It is sad and speaks volumns that that type of behavior did not even registar with him as being outside the lines of proper behavior in a civil society. Colleges and Universities not only turn out athletes but functional and enlightened members of our communities that can add to the common good.

rfsbkr, nice try, but your words betray you. I’ll quote your original post:

Plus you support a president that is getting people killed for his own wealth and lying to the public about everything. Are you saying anything about that.

First, notice you said Bush was lying about “everything”. Second, just how did you decide all of us were supporting Bush? It’s obvious I’m not the one filled with hatred - you are.

Just look at how we got here. You start by saying UGA needs to give this kid a chance. Then, if we disagree with you we are being “self righteous”(your words, not mine), and then you go right to the Bush bashing. WHAT A LEAP! I’ll bet you are great at the game “six degrees to Kevin Bacon” because you have the ability to link unsimilar things.

Anyway, I’ll give you the last word (or bashing filled with name calling and insults), and let your words indict you. Have a great day!!

I don’t know how we got from talking about this TE to the Jarboe kid, but I agree we don’t need Jarboe. Too much baggage. This is yet another illustration of someone not taking responsibility for their actions. Just look at the AJC.com headline. Jarboe claims he is a “victim of technology”. Talk about buck passing.

He was a victim of technology??? Not a budding Robert Oppenheimer is he? Don’t see many Manhatten Projects in his future. Do hope he lands back in school and can grip what he has brought upon himself. Someone should give him that 2nd chance. Good luck to this kid.
