TE recruit Fontaine to commit on Tuesday

Arthur Fontaine, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end from Dartmouth, Mass., will commit to Boston College, Georgia, Maryland or Virginia on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

“My decision has been made,” Fontaine said shortly after 6:30 p.m. today. “I’ll be announcing it [on Tuesday] at 1 o’clock.”

Fontaine, the fourth-best tight end in the nation according to Rivals.com, said he doesn’t plan on holding a press conference.

“I’ll just start texting and calling people at that time,” said Fontaine, who visited Georgia last week. Fontaine admitted to the AJC over the weekend that he nearly committed to Georgia during his three-day trip to Athens.

He has already notified coaches at the program he intends on calling home for the next four years.

“They’ve known about my decision since Friday,” Fontaine said. “I’ll be e-mailing coaches at the other schools about my decision tonight.”

Ridgeland WR narrows list to UGA, Auburn, LSU

Ridgeland receiver Michael Bowman, who has received scholarship offers from nearly every major college in the South and Midwest, has narrowed his list to three schools: Auburn, Georgia and LSU.

“Basically, I like their offenses and how they throw the ball and use a lot of receivers,” said Bowman, who is a member of the AJC’s Georgia Top 150. He is ranked by Rivals.com as the top receiver in Georgia, No. 4 receiver in the Southeast and No. 40 nationally.

Bowman (6-feet-5, 222 pounds) said also that he plans to end the suspense surrounding his choice “sometime before midseason.” He hasn’t scheduled official visits yet, but Bowman said once he does commit he will not take any more visits.

“After I commit, that will be it,” he said. “After that, I won’t worry about taking any other visits.”

Kentucky eyes Henry County QB Little

When Kentucky dismissed quarterback Curtis Pulley last week, it caused the Wildcats to take a closer look at Henry County quarterback Drew Little.

Little, a member of the AJC’s Georgia Top 150, attended Kentucky’s prospect camp earlier in the summer. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Little has no offers, but is being scouted by numerous major colleges.

“Kentucky told me they are definitely going to keep in touch with me,” Little said. “They said they planned on signing one quarterback but now may take two because of [Pulley’s dismissal].”

Mill Creek DE Ryan Robinson said Auburn may be next offer

Mill Creek defensive end Ryan Robinson said Auburn may be his next offer.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Robinson already has offers from South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State. He only attended one camp this summer at Auburn and impressed coach Tommy Tuberville.

“Coach Tuberville said I had a great camp, which was an honor,” Robinson said. “He said they’d be watching me during the season, and if they like what they saw, they would probably offer.”

Would Robinson commit to Auburn, if offered? After a short pause, Robinson said, “I don’t know. I’m trying to take it all in. I’ll probably try to wait until December or January so I can look at all the colleges.”

FSU commit Demps willing to listen to other schools

Lowndes safety Gerald Demps is surprised he has dropped off the recruiting radar since committing to Florida State last spring.

“Yeah, I haven’t heard from anybody, not even Georgia … I’m very surprised,” said Demps, a member of the AJC’s Georgia Top 150

Would Demps consider other schools? “I’m solid in my decision … [but] I would hear anybody out. I wouldn’t say it would be wasting their time to talk with me. Anything can change; anything can happen.”

Demps said he picked FSU because he has been a lifelong fan of the Seminoles. He did not attend any camps during the summer, rather focusing on working out with his high school teammates.

Douglas County QB Tony Caldwell awaits offers

Douglas County QB Tony Caldwell made the recruiting rounds during the summer, attending camps at Wake Forest, Middle Tennessee State, East Carolina, Furman and Georgia Southern.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Caldwell is still waiting for his first offer. But he has been told he is a scholarship candidate at several schools, including MTSU and Wake Forest.

“They all told me to mail them film after my first four games,” Caldwell said. “Georgia Southern said if they like what they see, that they are going to offer me.”
