Tift County’s Green commits to Purdue

Tift County defensive lineman Shayon Green has chosen Purdue.

“I can get an education in what I want to study (physical therapy), and I think I could get a chance to play as a true freshman,” Green told the Tifton Gazette.

Green, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound rising senior, had 58 tackles with 4.5 sacks, two caused fumbles, one interception and one blocked punt last season for the Blue Devils while playing linebacker.

Hey Darryl, I am glad to see that you are still doing well. It has been awhile since we’ve spoken. This is my first time responding to a news article, but I had to reach out to you and thank you for reporting on Shayon Green. I am extremely proud of my nephew’s academic and athletic accomplishments. He has worked hard on and off the football field, and deserves the very best. Purdue is a great fit for him both academically and athletically in the BIG 10 Conference. I am one of his biggest fans and loyal supporters. The family is very proud and he has a bright future. As a former basketball player, assistant coach at Georgia State & Mercer University, and head coach at Fort Valley State, I constantly exposed him to intercollegiate athletics and warns him of the many challenges and uncertainties that he will face as a student-athlete. He is really embracing this challenge going into his senior year. I constantly encourage my nephew on a daily basis to do great things, and take advantage of his God-given opportunities. With my Academics & Athletics Consulting Services, I encourage all youth, students, and student-athletes that I come in contact with to take ownership of their academic and athletic careers, as well as personal and community responsibiliites. Stay blessed! Keep up the good work!

First of all, hi Travis. I wrote to you last year about your speech at the 6th Street Academy. I admired you as a player, but admire you even more so as a person. Keep the faith and keep inspiring our youth.

I also want to thank Darryl for putting the spotlight on Shayon. He really came on strong in the last 4 games of the season with 14 tackles vs. Warner Robins, double digit tackles vs. run oriented Lowndes, double digit tackles and a sack vs. Colquitt, double digit tackles and a sack vs. Camden in the playoff game.
