Tech commit Chaun Gresham checking out other schools
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Apalachee linebacker Chaun Gresham says he remains committed to Georgia Tech, but is “studying other options.”
“I just want to be sure I’m making sure the right decision,” Gresham said. “I’m still committed to Georgia Tech for now … but who knows what the future holds?”
South Carolina is strongly pursuing Gresham, who is rated as the nation’s No. 47 outside linebacker by Rivals. Gresham attended the Gamecocks’ prospect camp last month and had a lengthy conversation with coach Steve Spurrier.
“He was really cool,” Gresham said. “He told me I could have a chance at starting after my red-shirt year, or he told me I could compete as a freshman. He said if freshmen are good enough to play, then they’ll play for him immediately.”
Gresham said he will take official visits to Tech and South Carolina. He also holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, among others.

This is probably the one position where Tech can afford to lose a recruit given that they took six solid prospects in the past 2 years in addition to the fact that the starters will most likely be sophomores or freshman.

Wow!!! what a load of crap. Chaun I know your family has a lot history with USC but wake up Spurrier is so full of Sh$t it isn’t even funny. Redshirt and maybe you will play as a freshmen, are you freakin kidding me!!! If you want to get a great education and play some football at the same time then GT is where you should be not South Carolina where recently players go to die. GT has a great history with producing some very talented LB’s who are currently playing in the NFL as we speak. Don’t be tricked by a man with a forked tongue. Come on down to North Ave and play for Tech wear your Old gold, Navy and white and play for a Coach who doesn’t lie.

Hey Chaun don’t give up on the yellow jackets. Plenty of pretty women on campus. My new girl friend Chitra is awesome and her father owns a near by Dairy Queen. Remember when you see the Dot it means a lot.

Yeah Chaun, our State Legislature says Atlanta is so dangerous that you need a gun everywhere you go. Everybody is so skeered that they need a heater to play with even in a restaurant. Stay away from this modern day Dodge City.

Will someone please define what a “commitment” is anymore. He is committed but is exploring other options?

Chaun, make the comfortable choice for you. I know many of your fans now and in the future would like to see you play in Georgia. Best of luck.

B-Rad,
What are you talking about? Players go to die? Troy “Recently” who has put more players in the league, SC or GT? And as far as freshmen playing, Captain Munnerlyn, Chris Culliver, Carlos Thomas, Cliff Matthews, Addison Williams, Emanuel Cook, Mike Davis, Dion Lecorn, and Kenny McKinley are just a few that have “recently” got early playing time under Spurrier. Please do your research first next time.

What Michael didn’t tell you in the article is that Chaun is the nephew of Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers. Chaun’s mother is George’s sister. The Tech coaches are telling Chaun’s mother to convince him not to go to USC because he won’t be able to live up to Big George’s legacy. How’s that for a recruiting technique??????
“You’ll never be as good as your uncle, so go somewhere else instead.” Yep, that works with a teenager.

SC Bird, talk about needing to get your facts straight. Maybe you need to re-read B-rad’s post before you make a comment. He specifically said producing LB’s to the nfl… Not players, and I can definitely tell you without doing any research that we have more linebackers in the league than SC does, Key Fox, Darryl Smith, Phil Wheeler, Gerris Wilkinson(ring), Keith Brooking, Possible Eric Henderson, pending cuts… And if you are referring to your players you have put in the league like Sidney Rice, etc:, that’s not too impressive. I know Jonathan Joseph is great on and off the field, but of course he got arrested playing in Cincy. And while I don’t know this for sure, and don’t want to look it up, if you look over the past five years, we might have put more players in the NFL

FYI, if you are leaving the door open to other options, then you are NOT COMMITTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone needs to look up what the word means in the dictionary.

Chaun,
Do you not know what the word committment means Chaun? Either stop looking around or tell Paul Johnson you have had a change of heart. We don’t want people who can’t keep their word.

THWG,
It’s a draw! According to NFL.com, both GT and USC have put 14 players in the league. In addition to Joseph, Fred Bennett, Ko Simpson, and Duante Robinson are holding their own. My thing was, the previous said Spurrier’s full of S**t with his statement of playing early, but the proof is there that he’s playing kids early at USC.

Hey Chaun. Go where You can grow. Tech is great, but not for you. SC is doing a wonderful thing in graduating students as well as getting to the NFL. Tech allows players to be used until their senior year then drop em like its hot…ie..Reggie Ball(they knew his academics were bad for 4years) Kenny Scott was a pre-season all american, but did not make it to the NFL. Where is Talib Tucker? Only one of the best LB to ever come out the ATL. Wheeler should have been a 1st or 2nd round pick, but the competition in the ACC is not considered tough enough by NFL standards to go that high. Wheeler will succeed in NFL. Besides, Beez said they already have enough LB’s. 6 over the past 2yrs. plus a few more next year. SC needs a good LB or 2 since all theirs keep going to the NFL early. GT fans are already booing you through these articles. Go where you can grow.

For Mr.gOLDTIMER, maybe you have never had choices before. Many people change their committment after they see a better way. Brett Favre is a savvy veteran who continues to change his mind, yet he is rewarded not intimidated by insecure men like yourself. It is called a recruiting process. He was engaged to GT, not married. It’s best to break off an engagement if you find out that you are not really in Love. Tech is a great school. I played football there, but it’s not for everybody. Chaun has his reasons if he decides on another school. It’s not that Tech is bad, it’s just that timing is everything. I love Tech. SC needs LB’s a little more than GT. Chaun has a golden opportunity for himself not anyone else. Go where you can grow.

SCBird you make some valid points, but your earlier assumption that SC has more players than GT has in the NFL was absolutely incorrect. You get your facts straight I already knew about Greshams History with USC…his own mother doesn’t even want her Baby to play their. Chaun and his mother are just looking at their options but in the end they know GT is the best fit on the field and academically. GT has always produced some very talented NFL caliber LB’s and Wommack and his staff will continue to do so well on into the future. Face SCCock the “Proof is in the Puddin” GT football has always been able to produce good LB’s and Gresham with his speed and body build is perfect for the outside LB position at Tech. If Chaun was a WR I would not have an argument because it is well known you guys can take an average WR and make him great but not LB’s. So with that said I am done offically done talkin’ my nonsense on an AJC blog.

Young Man, I could careless what you do with your life as long as you BETTER YOURSELF. I joined ROTC @ Tech and after graduation that commitment to the US National Guard “cost” me 4 yrs. of my life and a chance to be called into service in NAM, but I MADE THAT COMMITMENT. I have been married 3 times. 1st wife a GT grad too, but we wanted different things so we split. 2nd wife had a child and I adopted her and still support her with my Ins. policy. 3rd wife had a son that I put through College, adopted 2 Korean girls and they never stepped a foot in public school. 1 lady is finishing her DR. and the other has a 3 child family of her own. CAN I DEFINE COMMITMENT any better? WHEN YOU STAND-UP AND SAY I CHOOSE YOU, then understand what that means. Again, pick any school, but MIND, BODY, SOUL, and HEART make that a commitment you are willing to live with and sacrafice for. Best of luck young man. personally I will not be upset if you choose another school as long as it is in your HEART.

B-Rad,
1)Where did I even mention anything about Gresham’s history with USC? 2)Didn’t I say it was a draw? Since 2003, both teams have put 14 players in the league..go to NFL.com and research it yourself.I’m not arguing the fact the GT puts out more LB’s…But to say Spurrier is bs when he says he has the chance to play early is crazy…We all can disagree, it feels good to argue college football to me!

WATCHALAYYOURSELF who are YOU that played at tech? If you did then why not give your #, coach, Yr. of GRADUATION, min. played, who you were ahead of or behind? I know TECH is not for every player, but guess what neither is the NFL or you would be there, right? I hate people that give good advice on a BAD LIFE LIVED ie. B. SPEARS, P HILTON, and any over paid under acheiver. BACK the Young MAN for his future. He could be B. BELUE or R. STEWERT on the radio or ODELL out of the NFL and can’t read.

LB Chaun Gresham (6-3 215) of Winder, GA decomitted from Georgia Tech Friday and committed to USC. Gresham had committed to Tech in March but never shut the door on the Gamecocks, and recruiter Shane Beamer continued to work him. Gresham attended USC’s camp last month, and after that he knew that’s where he wanted to be. “It was a long process but I did my pros and cons, and I know what was right, and South Carolina came out on top,” Gresham said Friday night. “I like the players, the coaches, the facilities, everything. They impressed me about everything. When I left, I had it in my mind that I’ve got to find some way to get to Carolina.” Gresham said he notified Beamer around 2:00 PM Friday of his decision and notified Georgia Tech Friday night. And he said this will be his final decision. “I’m solid, I’m a Gamecock now,” he said. Gresham also had offers from Vanderbilt, Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Marshall, and Georgia Southern. Last season he had 113 tackles and five sacks. He’s the 14th commitment for the Gamecocks, and the second for Beamer in two days.
