Georgia holds spot for Washington’s Branden Smith

Booker T. Washington cornerback Branden Smith, one of the country’s top prospects, said Georgia is holding a spot for him while he decides which college to attend.

“When I last talked with [Mark Richt], we had a real good conversation,” Smith said. “He said they really wanted me, to take my time because they were holding a scholarship open for me, and to make a good decision.”

Smith is ranked as the nation’s No. 4 cornerback by Rivals. Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Clemson and LSU have drawn Smith’s interest, but he has declined to name favorites.

Georgia was the first college to offer Smith’s teammate, wide receiver Antonio Goodwin, who will be a rising junior this year at the Atlanta school.

I hope we get this kid. His highlights look awesome. He’ll have little competition as he’ll probably start his sophmore year. Our CB’s are good but not great. We need some studs and he fits that mold. Hopefully he’s not a trouble maker.

So I guess we can take: 1. Smith 2. Jarvis Jones 3. Darren Myles Jr. 4. Jawanza Starling 5. Arthur Fontaine 6. Marlon Brown or Rontavious Wooten

and be done with our recruting for the year and focus on the year after already. Man that’s awesome

it’s hard to root for kids to come to georgia, too many kids are getting arrested for drinking, underage drinking and assaults.hey, what is richt running up there a version of the miami hurricanes when they were the “THUGS” of collegiate footbal.it’s really is a lack of dicipline and the finger has to be pointed at richt and his lame excuse for these being kids and needing a second chance.as soon as one is caught drinking, operating a vehicle and kills a family of five returning home or going to church,it will be the death nill for both richt and georgia football.it’s bound to happen if this thing is not dealt with in a severe manner with discipline for both the players and coach.richt’s excuses ahve no merit.

Hey Ron, You can’t blame Richt for the actions of 18-22 year old kids. The guy has recieved nothing but high regards and upmost respect from all recruits that he comes in contact with. Now if they make bad decsions once on campus that’s not his fault. People like you just try to dump the blame in his lap. He’s running a good program! By the way most of the situations are happing at night, I doubt any families will be traveling to church after 12am.

Paddy…Dont know about all of those guys. I think like most kids in GA, guys like Nico Johnson and Tana Patrick are going to be tough to pull from the state of Alabama. Saban has made both a priority and I think they both end up in Tuscaloosa. Marlon Brown will likely end up at UT. Montez Robinson will probably decide between UA and AU. Javis Jones will probably decide between Clemson and UGA. I read where Clemson has a bit of a lead but in the end, he will be at UGA. These are just my personal opinions though.

DOC REEM, I totally agree with you. I am amazed at how people in general and the media in particular have questioned CMR integrity and the status of UGA’s program based on the behavior of these kids. CMR is responsible for recruiting the kids and not how they behave. He does a lot of good things to influence their behavior but he can not control it. Why does no one interview the kids’ parents and ask them about their kids behavior? I am more appalled at the behavior of grown men and women (doctors, lawyers, politicians, corporate executives, etc.) who have influential platforms in everyday life than I am about college kids. I do not excuse the kids behavior, the parents should get more heat than a coach.

I think Georgia will get Smith, Jones, Wooten and Fontaine. I don’t think they will get Brown because he really like USC and is a little scared of SEC defenses. Myles and Charles are toss ups. But really if we get those first 4 I mentioned we will have a very solid class. I also think we will get a few others we have offered as well. Probably another safety and posibly another WR and/or CB. The best thig UGA can do this year will be to win some of these big games that these recruits will be at., because if we go to LSU, UF, UA & AU and win then these recruits that are sitting on the fence may lean more our way.

Besides Smith, I wish we could get Marlon Brown the most. Imagine Him on one side and AJ Green on the other and Killer tailbacks. Defenses would have a hard time trying to stop us.

Ron does not like sports, leave him alone. He’s making bombs in his cubicle and thats what makes him happy. It happens to guys who never get picked for any teams as a child. I know you have all seen that type before.

Hey Tread Blightly-

Ron has a valid point. It’s just “boys will be boys” until someone gets killed. Go F your yourself!!! The team is out of control and needs some discipline. No different that the punk Stoops let go this past week. Football is a game. An extra curricular. 90% of the dogs will never earn a dime on Sundays. But they sure like to act fly and super bad. Better get an education and think about getting a job in 5 years. There are ex-dogs in every small georgia town working for minimum wage.

State politician Ben Harbin had an alcohol related accident, stalled off the court date for 1+ year and got reelected by 70% of the voters. And we want to chop off a college kid at the knees for drinking underage just because he plays football. So college football players are to be more responsible than politicians? Geez! Just throwing that in because previous bloggers took us off the subject of recruiting.

GW…., nice post! but they don’t want to talk about their elected officials, families, or friends. they only want to bring up young 18, 19, or 20 yr old kids. they could care less about that other stuff, as long as they are able to call someone thugs. in different times they would have used different terms, like their fathers and grandfathers probably did! common sense left these foolish computer nerds(or smart awb”s as “andrew young” once called them) a long time ago. a lot of this stuff comes from envy, some from school pride, but most from a source of old festering rotteness, that causes some people to come online and say the things they would normaly bottle up inside.

This kid must be a good kid and not a criminal since he’s looking at several schools before making a commitment. Let’s all just hope the young man makes the choice that he will look back on as being the best for him and not the fan. Out of state seems to be the fad in Georgia this year for the top kids.

ps There is no top school this season. That will be decided in two games, the SEC Championship which each school needs to take care of business to get to, then the National Championship. Actually the SEC Championship winner should be the best Team in the land.

montez committed to auburn last week but is waiting for some minor situations to pass to make it officially known but he called auburn’s defensive coach and notified him that he would be dawning the blue and orange in 09-10.
